Chaps I preserved some leafs a few weeks back, today I painted them and started adding them to some boxwood roots😉 . 1. Harvest the leafs and add them to a glycerin and hot water (not boiling) mix. Leave for 3 days submerged. I used 3 large jars of concentrated glycerin in the tub, which was filled up 3/4 with hot water. 2. Take them out and lay in layers on kitchen paper to dry. Use at least 2 pieces of paper between each layer. 3. wait at least 10 days until dry. 4. Airbrush the discoloured leaves with acrlyic paint and gloss mix. I used Tamiya Japanese green and NATO green. Jap on top, Nato undersides. 5. Use a leaf stamp to make the individual leafs. 6. Glue them to the pre-coloured roots with cyano. I used a drilled cork to hold the roots, it's easier that way. The positive thing of using real leafs instead of paper is you get texture, also it is very difficult to get the paper saturated with colour. I tried green paper first, but I always had a very bright edge where the paper showed through, even after brush painting with acrylics. Hope you like the idea, it isn't totally mine as I watched some youtube vids first on making trees in 1/35. That what I saw there I took and adapted to my needs.

Won't it crumble into powder after some time Paul? Seafoam tends to pulverize too.

Good question Guy. I haven't got an answer yet, but the glycerin should help prevent that. Even after the leafs were dry, they are still pliable . I suppose the glycerin has a sort of mummifying effect, but as said I have no idea how long it lasts. Here's a video which really gave the idea for this:

The Hudson & Allen Pine Boughs I used on my Tiger II were small ferns treated with glycerine. Considering I bought the pack back in the mid 90s, they've held up pretty good. Some of the leaves had curled up but they are workable. The package says...and I paraphrase for brevity:
Glycerine preserved plants will begin to dry out over time. Within a few years the branches will begin to curl, starting at the tips. This drying can be retarded and reversed by spraying it with a mixture of 80% denatured alcohol and 20% glycerine. Dampen...don't saturate. They advise spraying it with a spray bottle. Branches should return to normal in 24 hours.
Hope that helps.
