Our glorious leader has asked for a SBS on how I make small weeds and plants for my dios so below is the process explained. First off I use bits of sprue which I've previously saved from old kits and put aside. You then only need a candle and a new blade in your hobby knife, this is essential by the way. Next after lighting the candle hold the sprue above the flame and rotate until it's slightly soft. A quick pull on each end is then administered. This gives you lots of stretched sprue to begin carving into plants. It's then just a matter of carefully carving the sprue bearing in mind that the new blade will cut through the sprue like butter! By varying the pitch of the blade you can carve all sorts of shapes and types of plant. In a very short time you can create loads of plants for your base. It's easy to do and much cheaper than buying them or faffing about trying to dry and preserve real plants from the garden. With practice you can make all sorts of plants too. All these ones were made in about 5 minutes.

And here is the result glued to the base. As you can see they look very realistic even without paint.

Me likes, so much I gave it quick try while watching Strictly. I certainly need some more practice in getting the sprue thickness right and how to do the cutting but maybe be a dio calls.

Back in the day I used the same technique to make plastic plumes on the Airfix 54mm figures look feathery.

Pete, that is amazing! Simple idea with very realistic results and I will definitely be trying this at some point. Me too, these hyper realistic plants will add more structure to the existing range. Organic stuff like seafoam is great to work with but in time it tends to start crumbling. My M47 will be put in a setting with these and laser cut paper plants.
