Wouts, nice re-spray on the wheel bays. Since Japanese aircraft peeled badly due to bad primer or none at all you could probably just add some silver to where that yellow peeled away. Thanks mate, I sure will do that. Won't use too much chipping but I reckon it's an area that makes sense. Quite odd that those planes chipped easily apparantly. Although I recently read that it's a bit of an urban legend that Japanese planes' paintwork was of such bad quality. I read a whole article on the green/blue aotake anti corrosive primer they used and apparantly that primer was massively superior to the for instance zinc chromate primers the Germans and allies used. That's seems to be the reason why those Jap planes didn't rust that easily away in the pacific. Yes, Japanese Navy aircraft tended to be better maintained, appearance-wise, than their Army counterparts. You don't see too much wear-and-tear on the IJN birds. However, it would be easy to justify some paint peel on the leading edges since these were high-performance aircraft getting wrenched every which-way in combat.

Thanks guys. I think I'll go the weathered route. We'll see how it goes ^^ small update. I assembled the running gear. The parts received their basecoats. Still need to add the brakelines though. The cockpit has been sprayed as well. Now, the masks Tamiya provides need to be cut out yourself. Which can cause mistakes. It's ok but I still prefer the Eduard masks. The external fuel tank has been sprayed as well. However, I'm not overly happy with the result. Seems I didn't cut the tape properly, or I didn't attach the masking tape correctly, because some of the painted parts are just too 'thin' Not sure how I'm going to address this. Vallejo paints on bare plastic don't work so might need to cautiously brush paint Tamiya paint here and there...scary dudu to say the least...

Darne dnice work with the home cut masks, and the fuel cell and undercrackers look cool too . You're certainly right about Eduards masking gear though, it just can't be beaten

Wouts, looking fine, sir! Quick question; does Tamiya address the little oval window behind the antennae post on the canopy shell over the back deck? Eduard didn't address it in the instructions and I can't tell if it's supposed to be open or is there supposed to be glass in there?

Great job with the transparencies, and undercarriage. Bummer about the small area you pointed out in the second photo.

Thanks guys, transparancies aren't how I want them but seems I'm too harsh for myself or something . Thanks for the great replies. Ian, I'm not 100% sure how it should be, but it's open. I've seen on one of the three plane (decal) options that sometimes a wire went through it which attached to the main wire on the outside, so I guess that's why it's open. Hope my explanation makes sense a bit ^^

Very good! Thanks so much for the info on that. The bird I built was the only one on the sheet that did not have either the antennae or any kind of wire. I will leave as is and thanks again!

Beautiful paint work. Personally I think the third pic shows a near-perfect paint work on that canopy piece.

We're our own worst critics matey Canopy looks good to me but if you need to paint it using Tamiya will be fun.. I hate brushing it as it dries too quickly.

Thanks a lot guys? Steve, that is defo right, we are our own worst critics, however, the canopy isn't just perfect, though it was hard to catch it on camera. And yeah, paint brushing tammi's is a pain. We'll see how it goes ey Today I sprayed the VMS satin varnish. Last time I sprayed it I found the finish to be rather matte. However, I must have done something wrong then (not wet enough) because this time the Zero has a nice satin sheen. I might need to do a second run because the Tamiya decals are rather thick. Next time I'll use boiling water again for the decals. Also, some of the decals didn't settle quite nicely in the nooks 'n crannies/rivets on the wing, despite multiple Mr. Mark Softer applications (strong stuff!). It's a bit of shame but it is what it is... The real fun part is coming close now: the weathering

Bring on the weathering . Strange you mentioned that the varnish worked better this time. Chris from VMS said on Facebook (last week) that the matt varnish worked better in the hot temperatures than it did when cooler

Chris from VMS said on Facebook (last week) that the matt varnish worked better in the hot temperatures than it did when cooler In my case I think I didn't spray it wet enough last time. Don't remember the temperatures but I think they were quite 'normal' ones. Today it's (finally!!!) an enjoyable 20-23 degrees. Might got something to do with dry/moist air as well, who knows, paints and airbrush remain a dark art . Although, I admit I didn't dare spraying the varnish at 30 Celsius...might need to try that next year perhaps

I used the Satin on a desert yellow colour and liked the result. Used it again on a black and it just came up matt!!!!
Funny that.

Bootiful work Wout`s..... , the issues you mention are non existant in my eyes and if there are any then i`m sure the next stages will hide any slight imperfection that you personally are not happy with..........me....i think it`s looks top notch mucker
