Hi peoples, I have been asked if one or more of you dear chaps, could do a Step-by-Step on taking model photos. So here is the question. I know that most of you can take damned good pictures, unfortunately I am not one who can, as are a few others . Would a couple of you please take this challenge on and teach us camera imbeciles , how to take good pictures? Cheers Paul B.

I'm not one of those pro photographers you mentioned but I know that a uniform background is key to make a nice photo. No direct sunlight to avoid overexposure. I like to play a little with the contrast button and the brightness, then highlights and shadows, nothing else. My two cents chaps.

I`m the same as you Paul, i just use my phone camera and once i upload the pics onto my lappy i simply remove any over exposure/contast/highlights etc using my lappy`s built in programme, the other thing that bugs me is all the background crap that sneaks in or a dirty mat......soooooooooo.........spookily enough i had a brainwave last week and come up with this, i`ve just decorated the spare room and changed over the pull down blinds i then cut the blind down and reversed it so the White side was showing.......i then attached it to my rack(which spookily enough was the exact same length)..........this serves two-fold 1) my paints get the sun on them from the window next to me and i also have thinners in sunlight as well, unfortunately thats the way it is until i revamp.........by pulling the blind down it keeps the sun off of the paints/glues/thinners etc keeping them in the dark and cooler.. 2) if you pull it all the way down to the edge of my bench it makes a cracking photo back drop with no clutter on show whatsoever or any creases and joins
So don`t throw away your old roller blinds

The backside of a length of wallpaper works too.

For the back drop I’ve got some nice white foam board that I use two pieces for. They also make a nice painting ‘mat’ to save the cutting mat!

Great tip, Boots! Have to check my friends if they have any roller blinds left. And great picture of that moto, too!
A question for master Wouter: is there a particular benefit of using black background (black absorbs most of the light => no unwanted reflections?)? Those pictures of the Zero were amazing!

Excellent response chaps . Boots, that is too darned simple to be true , I might have to get myself one of those roller blinds. Does anyone use a photo-booth, be it purchased or homemade?

Well, after seeing that great tip Boots gave I, and combining it with Jabbly's idea, realised I have a spray booth.. and I have two sheets of plasticcard.. 1+1=

I never use a photo booth. I’ve only just got very large bits of coloured paper. Never used to really bother with decent photos but I suppose I should really up my game
