I picked up this for a bargin on ebay very much a product of its time, set up for motorisation with brass axle pins and real rubber tracks. Chunky "details" and a very sparse turret. Oh yeah.... and a COMPLETE flip of the driver/ gunner positions on the front...πΆ, but decided I wasn't going to bother. All in all went together fairly straightforwardly. Minimal filler required, but I did spend more time on the creative gizmology Shep Paine stylie for the turret than on the rest of the build.π Quickly on to painting. Primer of white over which I went with VMA US OLIVE DRAB. The plan is for a mount of French Amphibious group in Indochinain the 50's. I have a set of decals for the very thing but can't find them so I've ordered a Star decals set that will be arriving shortly. So where I'm currently at

I remember building this one about 10 years ago, I didn't even notice the mistake with the gunner/driver positions . I'm sure you'll have fun with this one, I certainly did

Looks a nice to me, amazes me how people spot the mistakes that have been missed by the manufacturers

Worked on " bit" of initial chipping. Given the age, location and context of use i figure it might befairly worn. Bow area still needs a signicant amount of chipping Additional all-over weathering to follow. The decals finally arrived ( on my birthday- yeeha) so on they go. I opted for the 1er REC, 2nd Amphibious group markings. This particular vehicle is shown with a locally rigged canvas weather cover jurryrigged over the turret, which I might still attempt. Deals over a gloss coat no issues for the turret decals a-ok, but the reg on the cab was a different story. As they were clearly intended for a different maker I.e one that was a tad more accurate dimensionally , if nothing else, ,this needed a good treatment of solvent to get it to look even remotely right. Unfortunately when I went over with the matt coat this morning the power from the ab lifted and dispersed some of the decal. Gonna go with foot-wear. Β³

Nice looking kitπ And a shame about that decal, but add some extra chipping there and it will look as if you intended to do it that way π

It looks very good from over here, and that damaged decal looks accurate to me . That would have been one area, were hobnailed boots would wear the marking away.

The decal blends in with all that chipping if you ask me

I think this looks great! And I wouldn't worry one bit about the damaged decal. Where it is positioned is a perfect spot for exposure and wear-and-tear so I think the peeling is totally realistic.

The decal instructions show this one with a jury rigged sun/ weather screen/cover.Its just a simple wire frame ( uneven and battered, so caliper quality measurement is not required π) with a tarp, so going to give it a try.

Here's the general idea. I think some florists wire should be stiff enough for the "frame".
