I'd heard some things about the kit too Ian, but it's all nonsense in your hands mate. It's a great looking piece of heavy metal!

I read some of the same "horror stories" in various blogs. However, most of that was mitigated by careful test-fitting, removing a few locator pins and doing some sanding on the nose gear well and bottom of the cockpit tub so the nose section didn't go out of alignment.

That does look really sweet. Did you have to reduce the paint at all to spray it?

Thanks, Jeff! No, it was shot as-is from the bottle. That's an advantage I see over Vallejo Aluminum, because the consistency doesn't have to be manipulated.

So shiny. I would be scared to touch it for fear of leaving fingerprints.

Looks great Ian, is it a lacquer or acrylic?

Thanks, gents! Steve, it is lacquer based paint.

Did you use a gloss black base for that? I didn't and it lost it's sheen

Thanks, guys! Robbo, I used my usual Tamiya Grey Lacquer primer, underneath. I think the way this AK Xtreme Metal paint is formulated it doesn't really matter what hue the primer coat is. The silver still remained very slick and shiny, almost to the point of being reflective.
