Hi there chaps, well this little project is certainly a big surprise for me as is for you also at a guess . 2 years ago a work mate of mine screwed up a 1/72 Revell Horten, and asked me to save it for him . That was quite a tough one to solve, most of the main parts were missing, but I did it anyway. This time he came back with a Swift Sixteen Tin Turtle . This kit is costs about £220 to buy, he got one and wanted to build it for his dad. His dad by the way, has never anything to do with real train, he just loves the look of it. Well my mate started it, and hasn't done too bad a job , except that there is solder where there shouldn't be and he lost a couple of parts , again. Anyway, he asked me to help him out and I said okay I'll see what I can do. Then he said, do you think it will be finished for x-mas Okay, lets see what I can do . I have given the solder a good beatin, but it still needs more. I noticed the exhaust wasn't complete so I scratched one up. I used plastic sheet, alu foil, steel rod, sprue gate and jeans pocket material for the asbestos covering 3 weeks deadline , lets see how it goes.

Carl, you are right there my friend . Pete, to be honest I haven't got a clue . I'm going to my LHS tomorrow which also deals in train stuff of all scales, maybe they'll know. I also want to get some tracks for it to sit on, it would look daft without them.

Thanks for the encouragement Boots . The worst thing to cure is the ferkin solder, I can't heat the stuff up because everything is well and truly fixed together. Heat will kill the resin, I'm thinking of using acid, maybe some concentrated drops and quick wipe offs might help .

Merry Christmas, Paul. I got confidence in you, Dude. You'll get it. About the solder, could you maybe smooth it out a little with a small, fine file?

a fibreglass pen used for cleaning solder tracks on circuit boards is pretty good for cleaning solder from brass. scrape with a new scalpel blade (curved shape) first to remove thick deposits, or wet or dry paper used wet, to lessen scratching.that should help mate

Many thanks for joining in on this x-mas marathon chaps . Guy, that be a good description indeed fella . Jeff, LMFAO Merry X-mas . I tried the file but it didn't do anything good at all. Steve, I said something similar when I saw the issue . Cheers for the confidence Bill, very helpful tips there Sir . I haven't got a Fibreglass pen, but the rest I do have . Ian, don't apologize fella. I hadn't a clue about this one either , thank the Lord for Google . Well sires, I got back at this today and that with vengeance . I took Bills tips about the scalple blade and wet n dry . I used a flat chisel style blade and plenty of wet n dry used wet and dry . This sorted the stuff out and it now looks about ready for priming . Here's the outside after the cleaning up job I was considering adding a basic interior, but after looking at the inside I decided against that . There's no way I can clean that up, so it'll just get a black paint job and that'll have to do . More tomoz after primer

Oh yes, I went to my LHS today and there is a track that'll fit this. I have forgotten what it's called scale wise, and sods law also tagging along, they didn't have any to sell me. But they'll get me a section before the deadline, which is good. And it only costs about £5 .

now thats an improvement!!!!! great job!! i got my fibreglass pen and refills from a dealer on ebay but electronic supply shops stock them. they are good for cleaning off excess superglue from plastic but beware the fibres can be painful if they get in your skin. i always work over a waste bin and make sure the strands fall into it and clean off whatever you are working on.
