I have about completed work on the figure for the Jagdpanther. I added Dragon photo-etch uniform details, namely the Iron Cross, Panzer Badge and belt buckle. The holster came from the Minart set and the headgear was painted up like a standard Heer Field cap and Vallejo Field Grey was used. I worked some more on the Jagdpanther, itself. I did some sponge-chipping around the storage boxes and used Vallejo Smoke Grey for that. I also assembled the tow cable and Dragon supplied a really nice "to-scale" piece of cable in the kit. As mentioned earlier, these early Normandy Jagdpanthers had all the tools and accessories pulled off the sides of the casemate/hull and moved elsewhere on the vehicle. This also entailed rigging up the tow cable to a pin on the front of the casemate and then stretching the cable along the hull-side back to the engine deck. I added a small pin to the front of the casemate from sheet stock to simulate this and I will paint it this week. I guess another added advantage of this cable configuration is that it would be easy to stuff foliage through it to cover the upper hull. I hope to add the final flat-coat/dust coat in the next few days and then I will finish it off with pigments. Regards, Ian

I did some more weathering work on the Jagdpanther. I applied an overall airbrushed filter of Vallejo Matte tinted with a couple of drops of Vallejo Iraqi Sand on the entire tank. I then began work on the pigments. For the running gear I used an application of MIG Dark European Earth Pigments which was sealed with MIG Fixer. For the tracks I used the same MIG Earth Pigment but tinted it slightly with MIG Light Rust. I added the tow cable to the side of the casemate but I just have to add a bracket to secure it. I noticed the seam inside the muzzle brake is a lot more prominent than I originally thought so I am going to add a cover to it. I found a photo of two Jagdpanthers moving to the front in Normandy and they had the muzzle brakes sealed off so it wouldn't be out of the ordinary. I also found a resin produce basket for stowage so I am going to get that painted up and add it to the rear deck. Best wishes, Ian

Here is the actual photo of "314" following her bump-up with the Scots Guards. Looking a little tired, indeed. Regards, Ian

She might look tired, but I bet that 88 still got some energy left in it

Yeah, this is a beast I would not want to tangle with. Allies were fortunate at Normandy that the Jagdpanther crews had not gotten alot of training on the vehicle before they arrived at the front. But definitely in it's ambush element at Arnhem and Normandy since Allied tanks were limited to lots of road travel.

Ian

Arnhem, the allies Stalingrad. My uncle was there, it wasn't a nice place to be back then. I shall be going there for the 75th anniversary on the 21st of September. Hopefully I shall meet up the Achilles and the kind gent who let me onto the vehicle in the Amersfoort cavalry museum.

That will be quite a trip, Paul! Was your uncle one of the Paras in the drop? Or in the XXX Corps relief column? Those guys had such a tough fight on their hands, especially with 9th and 10th SS hammering them.

Ian

He was in the drop and got taken prisoner on the 20th or 21st, he wasn't exactly sure of which day as so much had happened to them in and around Arnhem.

That is stunning mucker...........the running gear looks fabulous I grew up with my grandparents......he was in the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry as a medic for the Canadians coz thats where he was born, he did the Normandy invasion and he said that it was like being in hell.......he got injured and sent home at one point due to a rather big hole in his shoulder and chest from and exploding 88mm Tiger round, a guy was injured and laying down and my grandad/dad went over the top with his mate to rescue him...........exactly the same time the tank let rip............he was left injured and nothing really remained of the other two !! ......some one was smiling on him that day!!

Thanks, Boots! That's an amazing story as well. He was lucky to survive such a run-in with an 88. Couldn't begin to fathom something like that.

Ian
