Peekabooh So, after a hiatus of 23 years and thanks to Pauls' build (and the Night Shift YT channel) I got motivated to do some more work on this kittycat. I haven't touched any plastic since April or so...so yeah...let's roll straight back into it, just before the end of the year I've been reworking the Tigers' turret a bit, and did also some sculpting on the arms of the commander and the loader. Especially the commanders' pose gave me some issues last couple of years. Especially his right arm...I didn't know exactly how to put him in the cupola, and I think this pose is the 3rd try. I think I'm happy how he is letting his arm rest on the hatch. The vane sight is an addition to the cupola. In the past I didn't dare to add one or didn't know how to make one properly. Turns out it's quite simple: I took the finest copper wire I had and pushed it flat with a Tamiya bottle and some pressure. Sometimes things can be very simple in the end. Oh, and thank god for ca glue debonder...no more glue stains around tiny details I also replaced the two small pieces of wire on top of the cupola (which are supports for a sort of sun/rain shield) by two pieces of hollow tube. Looks better than the old copper plain wires. I added also some welds around the connections of the smoke dischargers and around the custom made brackets on the roof made by the 501 Werkstatt. I used Tamiya Epoxy Putty for this. Also some casting texture was added to the hull sides. Tamiya Putty Basic Type thinned with Mr. Cement S was stippled on the sides and sanded down gently. The old turret bin wasn't very bad, but I decided to replace it a couple of years ago by a bin which I soldered. I think I did the soldering 3 years ago, but never finished the bin. So, now I added all the details and glued it in place. Glad to say the turret is more or less nearing finishing. With a tad of luck paint might be quite near ^^

A three year shelfie! Good to see it, wouter. Thanks Tommy. 3 years is just the tip of the iceberg. I think I started it 10 or 12 years ago

Looking very suave indeed Wouts . I still need to add those brackets to the turret. Do you know how the Jerry cans were held in place? Was there a bar across them or were they strapped to the brackets?

Thanks chaps, glad to have you on board again ^^ Paul, that's a good question. I've seen photos of PzIII's with Jerrycans on the turret roof, and they seemed to have straps fixed to the smoke dischargers. But for the two Tiggies it was a tad hard to make out, so I had to make some educated guesses. photos for discussion purposes only On this photo of 243 it seems that on the second row of jerrycans there is something which keeps them in place and on the cupola side there seems to be some kind of support beam. But frankly it's difficult to tell. The first row of jerrycans don't seem to be held together with a strap or so. Then again, if all of those are filled with water and sprit I guess the sheer weight would help them to stay on the roof. Just some small supports on the turret sides should do the trick I think. After all these Tigers were on route on quite decent roads, and I can't imagine they were taking turns at max speed , especially given the fuel consumption of these beasts 241 had a bit of a different jerrycan config on the roof. Less jerrycans and some stowage boxes added. (somehow I got some strange quality loss of the photos when converting from RAW to jpg a bit difficult to show very clear but the small Eiffel tower souvenir is noticeable. I think that's a cool detail. Also, no straps visible on the turret sides I must say. edit: the Fahrgestell number for your Tiggy is known: it's 250028 - which means Tiger 241 is a November production vehicle. Often this number was also visible on the cover for the muzzle brake. Pitty the number for 243 isn't known

Wouts,
A great looking tiggy for sure!! I love seeing & reading about what you have done with the changes you have made!!
I don’t have half the collection of tights that you & Mr B posses, but it is growing!! Do you have any close ups photos of those tubes you were talking about on the cupola??
Keep up the inspiring work!! Cheers Mike

I might have chosen to fine tubes though when I look at the original. Might need to replace them with larger diametre ones Additionally, this morning I added some more welding around brackets and all. Also the Dragon moulded welds on the lower hull glacis were nice, but a bit too fine, so I redid them. Not much to be seen afterwards though, since most of it will be covered by spare tracks. (the one on this side I did on top of the plastic moulded weld. Doesn't look too good, but as said, not much will be visibel. I cut the weld on the other side of the front plate and that one was much better ^^ The custom brackets for spare track links next to the drivers visor received some welds too, as well as some other tool brackets. Was darn difficult to see what I was doing with the MkI eyeball

Amazing work and knowledge, here. That's a helluva ding in the photo, on that cupola. Few inches higher and somebody could have had a bad day.

Thanks a lot chaps ^^ First update of the new year. I added some more welds here and there. And the tool arrangement is done as well. Although this composition isn't correct for a November vehicle, I was pleased to read that David Byrden told Paul that these Tiger I's arrived without the tools added, and that the Werkstatt of the s.Pz.Abt.501 pretty much did their thing with it. Around some of the tool clamps I added welds, and I decided to cut away the moulded on ones on the base of the periscope guards, and redo them myself. The Tamiya two part epoxy putty really is great stuff for it. Also, since the model is 11 years old, I see errors I made (hull roof not completely sitting flush with the sides and so on). It annoys me a tad, but I'm not going to try to solve that and destroy the model. So when finished it won't be competition grade material (don't do competitions anyway LOL) I also added the obligatory tarps. Well, the one on the turret bin would be more like an aerial recognition flag or something similar. I used green stuff. My GS is some years old, and it's a tad more stiff than I remember. So I really had to take a loooooong time two mix the two parts together. But when ready to be rolled out, it was just amazing. Just use enough talcum powder on the rear of the engine deck some stowage and tarps were added as well. When the tarps have set (probably tomorrow) I will glue the tarps and stowage in place (just to be sure that it won't move afterwards) So, a bit closer to paintwork. That's about it so far. I'm just hesitating wether I'd add some tool to the glacis or not... Couple of years ago the great mister Tiger Bill "Bilbo" "Major Hazzard" Davies visited me and brought me two of his panzers. A BefehlsPanther I may keep, but I received the Tiger when I promised to paint/weather it and return it to Bill when finished. So I hope I can start her up this year. Anyway, great excuse to post a photo of his Tiger next to mine Can you guess which one he built? That's all folks! ^^
