Cheers guys, well this afternoon I had a go at matt varnishing the model, total fail!! I usually use AK interactive ultra matte and in the past have found it amazing. However the last two bottles have not performed at all, in fact the last one got chucked after using it once. This one 's a fresh bottle and again I've had problems with it blocking the airbrush and spitting great gobs of varnish all over the model I've shaken the bottle until my arms hurt, warmed it in a bowl of water and double checked the compressor air pressure after stripping the a/b, no joy so the buggers in the bin. Really peed off because at one stage I had to quickly wash off a few parts after a particularly nasty spatter! I wouldn't mind but this stuff isn't cheap. So I've ordered some the new acrylic varnish from VMS which looks good. Hopefully that will work to my satisfaction

Sorry to read this Pete, I was given some AK paint and couldn’t get it to work for me. I use Tamiya for almost everything AB now. Hope you can pull it back

When I tried thinning Micro flat acrylic flat with Mr leveling thinner I had the same probs . I think its the lacquer in the thinner . Using straight lacquer to clean the A B caused caused coagulation also . I went back to Tamiya X20A thinner and that cured the prob . Dont know if this will help but I thought I'd throw it out there Pete .

I usually stick to Tamiya, never had a problem. the range may be limited in comparison but just look at all the options we have now and most of them we don't need. every month there are sets to colour every damn thing under the sun and are they really necessary; are we being taken for suckers cos they are pitched as if,"use this and your paint job/weathering will be as perfect as on the packaging". Then there are problems like this!!!! for what they charge there should never be any issues, like I said never had a Tamiya paint related problem.........unless someone knows different!! I am no chemist but I do know that all acrylic paints are not created equal. Some thin with water and alcohol and lacquer thinners ,like Tamiya, others don't like alcohol, others need their own thinners, what a minefield!!!! That's me off my soapbox now bill
