1/48th Scale HobbyBoss F8F Bearcat Final Reveal

Looking nicely used and abused Ian

I made some headway on the Bearcat and I got the decals on. I used the HobbyBoss decals from the kit and they laid down with no problems at all. I have most of the sub-assemblies done and I got the ordnance finished as well. It will be armed with the typical Indochina CAS loadout of 2 GP bombs and four HVAR rockets. I weathered the bombs heavily with post-shading and oil washes as they had a very worn appearance as well. I just have to get the canopy masked and painted and then it will be time for flat coat.

Thanks, Paul! Just glad I didn't screw this one up as it was the first time I used Chipping Fluid on a project. Also, the HobbyBoss Sledgehammer of Fate has not crushed me yet, either.

That's some superb weathering & fading on the model Ian. Set off very nicely by the French markings.

The F8F is complete and I must say this was really a nice kit from HobbyBoss. I got all the sub-assemblies installed and finished off the model with a coat of Vallejo Matt Varnish. Photos showed lots of dust underneath so I airbrushed on some Vallejo Iraqi Sand to the areas close to the ground like the main gear, tail wheel and drop tank. I also added two antennae to the spine which were made from stretched sprue and I also added the rigging wire antenna which was made from E-Z Line. The plane depicted is a French Armee de l'Air F8F-1B from GC 1/22 "Saintonge" during the Indochina War which flew Close Air Support missions against the Viet Minh.
