Hi chaps, whilst I'm waiting for the replacement parts for the duel build with Mike, I thought I would crack the Trumpeter Su-101 SPA box open . There isn't much to say about this vehicle. It is a one off prototype that came around at the end of WWII, the vehicle was tested in the spring of '45. This self propelled gun, wasn't taken into service with the Soviet army and also didn't see action. I cracked the box open at 16:00 this afternoon, this is where I have gotten to till now . I should have the build done tomorrow, and maybe even primer on Monday

Paul that's a quick one indeed. Are these tracks DS tracks ? They have a subtle sag already. Give it hell from the spraypistol, it's done by next Thursday!

Well after about 7 hours build time, I'd say I'm ready for priming now . There is absolutely nothing wrong with this kit, except for a slight bit of filling being needed on the join of the upper to lower hull at the rear. The black paint is Tamiya XF 1, which I have slapped into all the areas that would be a nightmare to get primer into . Possible prime soon or at the latest tomorrow

Well that fell together in your hands Paul! I think it needs a nice 3 tone camo with a whitewash distemper over the top.... That’ll slow you down a bit

I think if you did a 3 tone splinter camo with ambush and a faded winter w/w over the top wouldn`t slow Paul down

I built one of these a couple of years ago and it’s, as you say, a fairly simple build but an interesting looking model. The only problems I found were the fuel tanks were problematic in that I thought I’d followed the instructions correctly but the gap between them was so small that I had to remove the handles to get them to fit as they look like in the box art. The other problem I found was the gap in the middle of the road wheels for the guide horns is incredibly tight. As I paint tracks off the wheels just the small layers of paint meant you couldn’t fit the guide horns in. I ended up prizing the wheels apart and super gluing the outer wheel to the guide horns.
Oh and I dropped the hull and managed to lose a wheel. I searched for it everywhere but buggered if I could find it. Turned up several months later in inside pocket of my fleece that was hung on the back of the chair.

Steve cheers for that fella . But the paint job will be a straight Russian green with lots of fading and bugger all else . Cheers Boots-meister , that idea might get used later on a what-if German biggy . Guy, laugh all you like my friend , Laughing is good for the immune system which will help you to a speedy recovery . Jase, I remember you showing this one off . It did indeed look very good . Thanks for the heads up on the guide horns, if that is the case then I'll just chop the buggers off where the wheels meet up . By the way, I always check myself and pockets first when something disappears . The SPA is now primed and waiting outside to dry off a tad, the Vallejo rattle can primer certainly cannot be used in the house Edit: Picture
