Hi guys, On my Troll bust I’ve started laying down some oil paints over an acrylic base. Q: I need to put a varnish down as a ‘save’ point. Any recommendations on which varnish I should use or whether a standard W&N acrylic varnish will be ok? Or will some Pledge floor gloss will do? Thoughts and tips please from you Oil users out there 😀

John if you are going to continue with oils, then use an acrylic varnish. If you're going acrylics for further painting then it must be solvent (enamel or lacquer) based varnish. The way I remember this is simple, always use the opposite to what has been used first.

Great advice Paul. I'd go for Tamiya Gloss Clear thinned with Tamiya Laquer Thinner, it works perfect.

Thanks fellas, will be continuing with oils and wasn’t sure whether acrylic varnish or clear would be ok to use over the oils I’ve done already 👍

It'll work just fine John, but the oils must absolutely dry first
