As I am surely a contender for world’s worst procrastinator, I have at least perfected a way of storing projects that have stalled, or I have fell out of love with. To keep incomplete projects safe with the instructions and any associated accessories and upgrades I keep them in storage boxes. I use the ‘Really Useful’ type from Hobbycraft (UK) www.hobbycraft.co.uk/really-useful-clear-box-9-litres/571330-1001 They come in a myriad of sizes and are sealed with the use of clip shut handles.
To avoid dipping your hands into a deep box and potentially damaging any delicate components I flip them upside down and use the lid as the base. This way the original bottom now becomes the top and can be safely positioned over the contents. I cut out some thin plastic foam board to fit inside which enables me to pop in cocktail sticks to keep components from moving about. Essential if you have incomplete and delicate sub-assemblies.
I use a highlighter to mark all the steps completed on the instruction sheet so I can easily start off again from the point I last finished, and I pop this in a clear pouch on the outside of the box. If there is a significant parts count still on the sprue, I will leave those in the original box but if there are just a few left I will cut the sprue tree right down. The boxes are stackable so if like me you end up with far more than you would really like they are an ideal way of storing safely in confined spaces. I have successfully completed many a project this way even when stored for years.

Best boxes around I think & not just for your use which by the way is a top tip!
