I can only echo what the chaps have said already, outstanding dio buddy. Looking forward to seeing what you can do with the pilot

Ok learned fellows.... which colour scheme is correct for WW2 RAF pilots, cause I’m struggling to find what Airfix are suggesting? Airfix from instructions: Rest of internet:

Don’t know, but blue definitely looks cooler.

If the Airfix colours are correct, then that is a new one on me. Defo blue John.

Cheers fellas 👍 Paul: I don’t know where Airfix got any of their reference colours from? I used photos of real craft from off the internet for the whole job. For such a large kit it’s a shame they overlook one of the most important details......what colour parts are 🤗

This is a tricky one. Pilots were meant to fly in Khaki 1930 Pattern flight suits to prevent FOD as Airfix’s instructions. In other words coins, lighters and other bit & bobs dropping out of their pockets and jamming the controls. Did they wear them all the time, no.
By 1941 it wasn’t common practice as the RAF spent more time over occupied territory and there was a fear amongst pilots that they might be treated as saboteurs and shot if they weren’t in RAF uniform so many flew dressed as the pic you posted.
The other thing to watch out for are posed photos. Aircrew would be wearing their station uniform and throw a few bits of flight gear on, such as leather helmet and Mae West for the pics. For me I’d go for the post 1941 blue.

Thanks Guy 👍 Under painted the pilot with ‘burnt red’ for shadows and ‘basic flesh tone’ for highlights. Trying this instead of black and white remembering what my old art teacher said about using raw umber for under painting drawings. ‘Burnt Red’ is nearest I have. Will have to see how this goes 🧐

Detailing on the pilot is great.
Thinking of getting some MiG colours for figures, so watching with interest.

John, amazing detail on the figure and this will be a great addition to the already spectacular Tiffie.

I can't keep my eyes of that pilot! I like this undercoat approach with warm shades. Can't go wrong.
