Oh bugger, just discovered that although Id though Id nearly finished this project, the commander figure isn't quite correct, as he needs a breast plate, and a hand held mic. Unfortunately cannot just make a breast plate and stick it on, as it has neck straps, so will have to rework the master, also may have to re do his complete arm with mic (so 4 moulds wasted :-(
Dont like wasting rubber as its expensive :-(

Paul wait out fella. The hand held mike was only on the very early Chieftains. Those from mid 70's onwards had fixed mikes to the headset, the breast plate was also dropped. I'll see if I can find a picture.

Here's what I could find in references Paul. The breast plate (CPU commanders pressel unit) was still in use, sorry for that mislead info. But it was only the commander who had it, it used to switch from squadron level to regimental level radio sets. The other crew members just had a a hand pressel which was on the lead for the bonedome or staff user head gear. I had a look on the net for Clansman radio gear but couldn't find anything of use.... yet.

Cheers Paul, that's spot on mate, really helped me out, although it looks like the commander has different head phones, to what I have already.... In the top photo the tank commander also has boom mic. All these variations, most of the reason I don't model this period :-) Well get there in the end though :-)

A bit like this, trying to get the measurements, it appears theres different versions, with slight different detail, so have gone for the basic shape ... will refine a bit more when the magicsculpt cures...

Paul that looks about the right size. It's difficult to tell for sure, as you say there was a couple of versions if memory serves me right. It's looking very good now mind

Nice work Paul, I think you will find that clansman headsets came in various configurations, mostly down to timeframe, the first picture Mr B has put up shows I think an early Racal headset. I would not worry about the shape of the mics as usually these were covered in a foam pad, unless of course they fell off, See below. Possibly the early headset was for the bonedome helmets and it's not beyond possibility that they and the more round version would have been worn at the same time. Especially with your figures in 70's NBC suits. Here's the later version. Modern tank helmets are a bit of a minefield no matter the country as they all had variations during different time frames. For such a living memory subject there is surprisingly little info floating about.

Thanks Pete, although I try and get everything correct, I think on this occasion with this subject, its going to be getting something looking close, as you said so many variations. Turned a small piece of resin yesterday to resemble something very close in photo No 2 over the mic. :-) Thanks for the photos Pete, thats maybe the next subject :-)
