Mark, the figures look excellent. Winter gear can be tough to make look 3D but you nailed that one.

Thanks for all of the comments guys. Have to admit that the application is made all the easier by having dedicated paint sets. For the white I used a set from Andrea Miniatures purchased from Historex Agents. For the belts and holsters I've used the Wood and Leather set from Scalecolor - Again purchased from Historex Agents. For the magnifier set, I purchased one that popped up into my Facebook feed. It's a nice bit of kit, comes in a robust case and magnifier lenses from x1.5 to x4.0 and a lovely crisp white 2 level LED spot. When combined with my reading/modelling glasses you literally see things more clearly The good news is (while i touch wood) that today is looking like being a quieter day so I'm might get a bit more time to spend in the modelling room this afternoon. Also went and did a contactless pick up from the local DIY store yesterday. I know the highlight of the week right, what classes as entertainment in a lockdown world!! Anyway I left with some basswood strips and boards to create the base for the diorama. Looks like it's going to be a busy weekend. Cheers Mark

Some amazing equipment you got there, and paints. I've never even heard of the products.

Well, all my dreams came true. Oh ok not all of them, how do you expect to find a coachload of strippers in the middle of a lockdown?.... So, my wish for a quiet afternoon played out, so I got a bit more painting in. First up was the figure in the full black panzer uniform. I felt that the modulation of colour was too harsh and unrealistic, so I hit it with a black ink wash and it tied it all together. Have to say that painting the thin lines around the badges etc was cross-eye inducing. Thank goodness for my magnifiers. Then I went around and did some touch up work on the other figures and painted the hair on each of them. The next steps are, gloves and boots, oh and to tone down the eyes as the off white I used stands out like dogs balls now and looks a bit scary. So here's all five of them to date. Quite the handsome crew.

I must say the badges and medals look exceptional. Did you use a decal for the iron cross?

I must say the badges and medals look exceptional. Did you use a decal for the iron cross? No decals, they're mouldings on the figure. The iron cross and the badge below it were eventually done with an AK pencil - Aluminium colour. I had tried to do it with a very fine detailing paintbrush, but it was just too difficult to nail and resulted in a few painting it black and starting again. So I had a cunning plan. I sharpened the AK pencil to a really fine point and rubbed the side of the point on the raised detail. Worked a treat (just like doing a brass rubbing). The piping on the shoulder braids was done the same way with an orange red AK pencil. Also the same technique to do the SS marking on the collar badge. It really was a challenge at that scale and it took a few goes to get them all looking ok. There was definitely a few deep breaths at times.

Really good tip, and thinking about it, it is the same way as using a normal black pencil to create paint chipping.
