Happy Sunday everyone,
I thought I'd show this build from a month or so ago. The great thing about this hobby is having lots of projects on the go and this one is at least 15yrs old, maybe even longer.
I've never really been into the whole Luftwaffe '46 thing but this one, the 1/72 Revell Messerschmitt MeP1099, caught my eye whilst perusing the special offer shelves at the old ModelZone in Holborn. From 2001 to 2005, I used to work in the MoD in London and MZ became a regular lunchtime haunt, (at least once a week). I vaguely remember it being a ridiculous price so it fell into my hands.
The Me P1099 design began in the summer of 1943 and it was intended as an improvement to the Messerschmitt Me262. Intentions were to later develop it into high-speed bomber (Schnellbomber), reconnaissance plane, interceptor, night fighter and trainer versions.
12 m long and with a wingspan of 12.6 m, it had a wider fuselage than the Me262 and was equipped with a cockpit for one or two pilots, located at the front end. The planned powerplants were two Junkers Jumo 004 turbojet engines but these were later to be replaced by Heinkel HeS 011 turbojets in a further development with swept wings, the Messerschmitt P.1100. None of the variants made it into production but this project was developed into the Messerschmitt P.1100 all-weather fighter project, which in turn would lead to the single-seat, single-jet Messerschmitt P.1101 design for the Emergency Fighter Program in July 1944.
The kit provides for two 'what if' schemes and so there is a certain amount of flexibility to painting. This was a godsend as when i built this all those years ago I had previously painted it but not to a great standard. Picking this up again I thought I’d have a bit of fun with it and spruce it up. So here she is all brush painted and waiting for a clear coat prior to decals.
