Lovely paintwork Wout`s Thanks a lot Bootsey ^^ Well then, before we could move on to the green there was some masking to be done And then some more black basing, though in handsight I could have skipped this step I don't know if it was one of those days we all have from time to time, or still the weather, or my needle/nozzle combo starting to be worn out - or a mix of those three - but spraying the green wasn't a walk in the park somehow. I used Tamiya XF-70 Dark Green 2. For some reason it didn't spray as well as I'm used to. Can't describe it exactly but it didn't feel right. In the end I had to spray an opaque layer on top of the basing, but the result is a bit blotchy. Now, these things happen in life and I'm not standing still. Tomorrow I will be spraying some faded version of the basecolour (probably mixed with a tiny bit of yellow) on some areas. And the base not being perfect is perhaps a nice start for a faded look. I want a worn bird, though not one with heavy chipping showing whole blobs of aluminium. I also sprayed the cowling. I mixed some Clear Blue, Medium Blue and a tad of black. It looks to be more black than blue, but the blue is there. And oils are pretty much inbound after all the decalerizing and so on, so gonna have some fun with that soon. Meanwhile my three kids are building there own models. Amélie is doing a 1/72 PzIV (gonna end up pink lol), Julien a Ford from the 60's (Revell starter kit - horrible model) and Louis a 1/72 Focke Wulf 190...Since Louis is the youngest (almost 6) it's needless to say that dad is doing most of it

Getting the family involved, like it. What’s wrong with a pink Panzer IV?

Wouts, glad to see the modeling is a family affair. Also, great application of the green on the A6M! I always liked the scheme, especially with the black cowling.

Looks brilliant Wouts. Great idea getting the kids involved with building kits. I make them with my two grandchildren.

Thanks guys. Yeah I think it's important to make the kids get to know hobbies other than watching tv and similar stuff. And they are enjoying themselves, that's the important bit.
@Ian: I agree, that dark blue colour goes well together with the dark green. And that newly discovered underside colour which I always thought was white, I love it.

peekabooh So, I have done some more. I have sprayed some highlights here and there (not only on the control surfaces) with the base green colour and a very small blob of white, and a lot more thinner. The AB and I aren't best friends these days, and the session didn't go easy peasy, but in the end I'm pleased with how it turned out. After that I could remove the masking tape to check weather I had some paint bleading underneath. Luckily that wasn't the case. There are small areas which need to be tidied up, but nothing too bad. Then the cowling could be fitted. I'm particularly proud on how the exhausts turned out . I also painted the spinner and prop in a red brown colour, but no photos just yet. What do you guys think: starts to look like a Zero ey ^^ Normally I planned for this session to paint the canopy as well. But then I noticed that Tamiya's paint masks aren't pre cut (atrb_partsz) I'm used to Eduard masks, which makes you lazy in a way . I didn't feel to cut the mask myself today so that will be for another session

Yep,very nice color... and like your stand.. adjustable.. looks very professional! Thanks a lot guys. The stand is from Vertigo, if you build a plane from time to time it's quite handy, especially since it's highly adjustable, so you can adapt it to the size and scale of your plane ^^

lol, thanks a lot Guy meanwhile I need to go (partially) back to the sprayworks factory. I've learned a bit about the A6M5 today, and apparantly the Mitsubishi made Zero's had some differences. The interior wheel well colour was the same as the underside of the plane. The Nakajima planes had the oatake (green/blue metallic primer - which apparantly was superior to the zinc chromate primers used by for instance the allies) on the interior, but Mitsubishi overpainted this. There are some more details and the instructions have an error. Apparantly the cockpit area behind the pilot isn't supposed to be green, but blue/black, like on Ians' A6M2). Nothing too bad to adjust though. We'll see how it goes

Wouts, does Tamiya indicate if your decal option is Nakajima or Mitsubishi manufactured? Might be able to research the tail number and save yourself any touch ups if it's Nakajima-made. I also read the black color on the back deck area behind the seat faded very badly, possibly from getting cooked under the canopy.

Wouts, the bird on the box art, ED-126 or YOD-126 depending on who you ask was Nakajima built and flown by Akamatsu. Trying to find out more about the other two on the sheet.

.......and Wouts if there's decals in there for tail number 320-85 off the Junyo from the 652nd that one is also Nakajima built. At least this might keep you from having to respray the wells.
