Domo Arigato gents! @bert: yeah, my 'usual' chipping style is far more extreme, although I generally reserve that for my armour, not my planes Today was 'Flimseybitspaintingday'. So yeah, all of the flimsey bits which weren't just painted yet were painted. First flimsey bits which were painted come on top of the wing, they still need to be weathered. I glued them already in place. I totally have no clue what they do though . I also gave the lights on top of the wing a basecoat of flat aluminium. After that I will need to paint them red or green, depending on which wing. The tail light was masked and painted as well, and glued in place with Micro Kristal Klear The wheels and lower part of the running gear received a very gentle dusty coat and were attached, though they aren't glued just yet. As you can see I also added the external fuel tank in place. I added some fuel spills running from the filler cap, though that's not visible in the photo. So, what's yet to be done: install the aerial support thingy on the rear of the canopy. Close the canopy. Paint the wing lights. Paint the wingtip lights. Airbrush exhaust streaks. Add aerial and weather the flimsy bits. Add guns and pitot tube. Oh, and scratch the running gear indicator thingies on top of the wing, because Tamiya doesn't include them. (if it wasn't for Ians' A6M2 build, I would never have known those things were actually on the plane ) Guess the finish line is near. I can start thinking about the background colour for the final photos...white or black...

Thanks a lot gents, and thanks for your 2 cents Mr. B ^^ I'm having a blast today, so next stage: I painted the wing lights and airbrushed exhaust stains. I tried to keep them quite subtle. They are there but they are not in your face. Mainly because I haven't found photos of Zeros with massive exhaust stains on the fuselage sides. I used the same mix to emphasize some panel lines here and there. I sprayed the mix through my 0.2 nozzle and I think I need to thin down the mix some more, because my ab had some hickups. On the underside the colour is more visible and on the right wing tip (left on the photo) it became a little bit of a mess because of the airbrush . Will need to adress that, but hey, that's part of modelling as well ey, resolving problems That's all for now...today...I think...

Smashing that ball out of the park indeed Wouts. The colours match so well together they better marry as soon as possible. The black background is perfect to show off the colours. I like it all!

Yeah I must say it's crazy. I think it's the first time I'm building and weathering a model where all the colours are so complimentary to each other. By accident of course . There are well talented modellers who intentionally do this, and while this is somehow always the aim, it's a bit hit and miss. But when it works it sure is satisfying Thanks a lot chaps, glad you like the bird ^^

wow, many thanks chaps Small update this time. I slightly weathered the guns and pitot tube and glued them in place. Same for the aerial support thingy. I closed the canopy (sadly it seems I scratched the canopy slightly here and there, but it is what it is). I also painted the wingtip lights and when glueing them in place the fit wasn't fabulous (probably that's on me). There where some small gaps so I filled them with Micro Kristal Klear. I also brushed that on top of the wing convoy light or whatever they are called. I slightly overdid it though and the wingtip lights are a tad on the 'thick' side now. Oh well, you always learn a thing or two Few more things to be done: spraying a fine application of the exhaust stain mix on the rear and when that's done, brush some matt varnish on the canopy green parts. And to finalize I need to add the wire antenna and then we can do some final mug shots, whehey.

Wouter,
Been looking in from the wings and like what I see, well done.
However, one small observation. In the last picture I think your wing tip lights are reversed.
