My entry for this fun group build, every now and then a man has to escape from the WW2 comfort zone. It's Tamiya's A1-H Skyraider in 1:48 scale.

This, is the first serious plane I will build in 1/48 scale. A long time ago I did a 1/72 scale Italeri C47 Skytrain and one P51B Mustang. Luckily I'm in good company here!

I'm glad you like my choice for this group build. I've just opened the box and I'm impressed however I'm not familiar with birds at all.
Sometimes I read about rescribing panel lines, is this always necessary or should I stay away from doing this as I think at first sight they look ok enough to me ?

My is answer, you have to bite the biscuit (kak taart) at some point . Scribing is a very tedious job, my first complete scribe was on that Shinden, and boy it scared the hell out of me a times . I'd leave this time, and maybe get a cheap model to practice on later

Thanks for the advice my dear neighbour. I'll have to purchase a cheap one then, I only have beauties of birds in my fast growing birdie stash.

Guy, probably no need for any re-scribing on the Tamiya SPAD. The panel lines in that one are very fine and recessed. Usually we reserve re-scribing for older kits (Monogram and older Hasegawa, like Paul's Shinden, for example) that have old style, raised panel lines. Hasegawa started recessed panel lines in the mid-80s and other manufacturers followed suit so re-scribing was not used as much, after that.

I've got a Revell A10 that has raised panel lines

I’ve made five of the Tamiya Skyraiders over the years , Guy. I found they went together absolutely fine. The panel lines were fine. It’s a really nice kit.

The Tamiya Skyraider is a very nice kit straight from the box. The cockpit canopy boot could be replaced (Part A6). With your skills Guy, I’m sure you could make your own.

Thank you for the bird wisdom you share with me guys. One thing less to worry about then, the rescribing of panel lines which is not necessary. Joe, that's a nice addition but I think I'll keep it easy this first time (the idea however...) Ian, I have a raised panel lines Handley-Page Halifax from Revell I purchased in medieval times. An ideal thing for practicing!

Good idea, Guy. It builds up very nicely straight from the box.

Sorry for the late reply AG . The guys are all correct, this is a great kit straight from the box. Follow the instructions and enjoy!
