Dear plane builders, I'm looking for high quality acrylic metal/alu/chrome paints for the airbrush. What do you recommend ? Thanks a lot in advance chaps, I have ordered a P51 D Mustang with a shiny body and a blue nose.

Guy, I also have a couple of natural metal aircraft planned. I'll be using these: Vallejo Metal Color 77.706 White Aluminium Vallejo Metal Color 77.707 Chrome I shall also use some of these as well: Vallejo Model Air, metallic 71.062 Aluminium Vallejo Model Air, metallic 71.063 Silver RLM01 Vallejo Model Air, metallic 71.065 Steel The last 3 I have used before with excellent results, remember the silver Spitfire ? The first two I shall be using for the first time, apart from the chrome which I have brushed onto landing gear cylinders.

Vallejo 71.062 Aluminum is my favorite, Guy. I had used that on my KC-97L and the F-47N from the Hawaii ANG.

Look forward to ya recipe mucker I use mine 30% Vallejo thinner to 70% paint and that passes superbly thru my particular brush but other AB`s might prefer otherwise, a case of tweeking if necessary here and there but the 30/70 is a starting point for you....HTH

I only use Vallejo with a brush but I’ll give them a thumbs up anyway.

Funny enough the Vallejo ModelAir metals work really well on small parts with a hairy stick.

Guy I don' t think the Metal Color stuff needs thinner, but the Primer will. And maybe you should get some Flow Improver too, that stops the paint from drying in the AB nozzle.

Guy I don' t think the Metal Color stuff needs thinner, but the Primer will. And maybe you should get some Flow Improver too, that stops the paint from drying in the AB nozzle. That’s the main reason that I went back to Tamiya. The range of colours might not be as good but I just find them easier to use and more consistent in their results. It also helps that if I just need a couple of paints I can pop down to my local Hobby Craft.
