In case I missed it, are the exhaust ‘stains’ the paint being heated up?

Great Ian! You are my kind of guy with the weathering of that level. I know that it is a matter of taste (no offence to anyone), but to me this is the difference between realistic scale models and toys. Be interesting to see the final result!

In case I missed it, are the exhaust ‘stains’ the paint being heated up? Thanks, Kari. French F4U-7s and AU-1s were notoriously weather-beaten by the 60's so this was going to be a great palette for weathering. Jabbly, the stains were caused by a variety of factors such as type of fuel burned, engine settings and the paint on which the exhaust blew across. It seems grey or beige stains were very prevalent on the French birds, however. FOR ILLUSTRATIVE PURPOSES ONLY:

Strange to see what appears to be a seamline on that tank?

Yep---the 150 gallon Corsair tank has a raised ridge around the circumference of the tank. The single centerline tank carried by F4U-1As and FG-1As has that as well.
