Thanks again, but compared to some of the detailing I have seen on some of the kits you guys did this is very basic... Bert we all started somewhere and I can say, this is how it was for most us .

Them invasion stripes look good. I ant to get something to do them on, people at the club was telling me to do it on the big spitfire but if I messed it up I really would be annoyed

Bert, truly awesome! You took a 50 year old kit and brought her to life with an amazing paint job. And of course, have to love Invasion Stripes.

Thanks everyone, just don't zoom in to much on those stripes, masking didn't go fantastic. Did use the by some people mentioned trick of spraing white paint after masking the white stripes. And used the trick of gloss on the canopy after the masking but before spraying it with OD.

Did come across a text about those invasion stripes, origionally they were handpainted just a couple of hours before the invasion,so far from perfect...... only later they were sprayed on..

Yes--the stripes varied from perfectly straight to completely crooked with messy brush strokes. I always liked the messy ones, to be honest. There's a great picture out there of a Spitfire from one of the RAF Czech squadrons and it looks like the stripes were applied with a mop.

Found a you tube video of someone building an even older version of this kit, still in a bag.. I have the luxery version in a box youtube video also found a youtube video of the new Tamiya 1/48 version being built, with all the guns in it, nose opened.. man that looks beautiful.. and thanks to that video added some visual extra's..
The ruststains and smoke on the exhaust.. three lights behind the nose wheel..
The original decals went on without any problems, and are remarcable good condition, good old Airfix quality... a lot better than those red dots I took from some other set (acting as fuel caps)... But very nice to do..
