Tamiya 1/48th P-51B Mustang. I’ve not been totally idle in the last few weeks. I started this kit just before Christmas. I’ve already made a few Tamiya P-51, so I know they go together nicely. I didn’t want to post any WIP photos in case I got distracted before I finished it. Apart from a couple of little additions, It was built straight from the box with the kit supplied decals. I wanted to improve the guns, so I drilled out the machine barrels, and replaced them with aluminium tube. The only other addition was the rigging wire. I purchased this kit in the last couple of hours, on the last Saturday, Lisa opened KB models. Some of you might recall, Kim, the owner of KB models passed away unexpectedly last August. His daughter, Lisa opened the shop for two Saturdays to clear as much stock as possible. To do this she sold everything with a 50% discount. It was in the last couple of hours, on the last Saturday that, Lisa dropped everything to 75% discount! That was when I got this kit. So this Mustang cost £5! I didn’t want to disrespect Lisa’s generosity, so I really wanted to finish this one to post on her KB models memorial page.

Brilliant work on my favourite WWII bird! And great gesture towards the diceased model shop owner and his family!

Joe, that is fantastic looking Pony! I always thought this kit was one of the best out of the Tamiya stable. Nice to see a razorback, too, because they always get over-shadowed by the bubble-tops.

Thank you, Ian. It was one of Tamiya’s best. It’s getting on a bit now, but still a very good kit indeed.
