I'm late starting but l'm here. Continuing with my single seat day fighter trend I'll use this as the base kit. Not too shabby for it's age but we'll have some fun. Thank you Paul This is going to be a two seat field conversion of a war weary fighter for use as a Station Hack, no guns or armour just something to 'nip to town' in . Let the mayhem begin! Measuring up for the first cut... Done, and false floor in. The passenger seat replaced the fuel tank. These hacks had no IP or flight controls unlike the TP-51 which was a true dual control training aircraft. More as soon as I can.

Glad to have you all along for the build fellas Made a bit of progress with the modifications. Cockpit taking shape with a new floor and a seat from the spares box. Tail halves added to the front fuselage to make two complete halves. Academy wanted me to join the halves then add the tail but this might lead to a difficult to fix step right around the body. Removed the flaps from the wing. The P-51 hydraulic system dropped pressure when parked so this needs to be replicated here. Finally filled the upper panel gaps as these were filled with putty to improve the airflow over the wing. A lot of words but one pic

Very nice, a double seater Mustang, and those filled upper pannel gaps, was that done with more Mustangs or only your version?

Very nice, a double seater Mustang, and those filled upper pannel gaps, was that done with more Mustangs or only your version? Thanks all. I've read that all wartime P-51 had the upper wing gaps filled with putty. It was to smooth the boundary layer and therefore give more lift and agility. Post war restoration removes this for inspection etc. They don't carry guns or armour so the performance isn't too affected due to the weight saving. Moving on. Cockpit detail added and painted. As usual I represented the belts with tape. The canopies will be closed so not too much to see then anyway. All buttoned up and started work on the gaps etc More soon chaps. B)

Thanks for taking the time to drop by and comment fellas B) Both canopies added along with the runners for the Malcolm hood over the new rear seat area. Flaps were built up with white stock then filed to shape and fit... hopefully! Ready for primer to look for blemishes as they'll show a mile off under metallic paint. Looks like a Mustang now
