Superb work Guy!
I cannot understand how you make it. You must have eyes of a hawk and unbelievable steady hands!

That is a gorgeous U-Boat! Are you doing uniform insignia on the figures?πππππ And don't forget the salt crystals in their hair from dried up sea water...

Thank you Kari, no I don't have the eyes of a hawk (I wish I had) and I can't build in a decent way without my magnifying glasses. The steady hands however I believe I have them.π
Your builds inspired me to finally buy a Flyhawk Bismarck in 1/700 scale a while ago, thank you for that sir ! This U-99 was in fact an experiment to find out if this scale is do-able. I don't want to ruin a nice looking Bismarck kit and now I am confident enough to open its box.

Thank you Steve and Boots...I'm taking this figure remark of yours extremely serious!πππ Although the U-Boot isn't finished I set it aside to slap a sea diorama together. I used a photo frame from a Scandinavian furniture store nobody knows to begin with.π₯³ The back board was glued in together with a styrofoam panel (8x15). With a kitchen knife I cut waves and these were further shaped to scale by pushing round tools in them. Once the base looked moreless satisfying it was covered with a thin layer of spackle, applied by brush. Wood glue was added to the spackle to ensure a firm base. I then brushed on a bed of thinned wood glue and wet tissue was put on it. It was gently worked with a soft brush to shape the sea and to remove air bubbles under it. I've noticed that multiple layers of tissue did the trick. A final soaking with thinned wood glue was done and now the blob of sea had to firmly dry. Meanwhile I went to my cousin completely involuntary and unwilling as a half bottle of Arran whisky had to be emptied in which we succeeded 100%. Today the edges were cut and reworked in places with Magic Sculp. Tomorrow the colouring will be started. I hope you like it so far. In-progress photo...

Looks great, nice to see someone using else using the tissue and PVA/woodglue method as well! It's a very controllable method. I combined it with wet spackle underneath the wet tissue and surprizingly it worked a treat.
