Hi all, this is my next project. A Hellenic Navy Fletcher class destroyer. Ex USS Brown DD546, the Hellenic flag was raised in 1962 and wad decomissioned in 1981. The kit i will use is Trumpeter's 1/350 The Sullivans and a PE set from Tom's modelworks. The kit is suitable because of the square bridge and the fact that Thyella was one of the two Fletchers that never received any armament upgrades. So in theory it should be easy.... So the first parts were glued together and naturally putty was in order. The fit isn't that good. What i want to do, but don't know if i can or should, so i could use some advice from more experienced ship modellers, is the caving effect. You can see in the pic below what i mean. On Fletchers especially this was a very visible effect. Any input on how to do it would also be appriciated.

Another great choice Mr.K . Looking at that PE set, all I can say you are stark raving mad fella . I have just given the pitted dented surface some thought , this might work but it's gonna need some practice and lots of patience and scotch . Do you have a dental burr? If not, I'll get the tools shown off to you tomorrow. Here's the pics: I used the dental burrs in a large pin vice and twisted these into the plastic sheet. With this you can control the depth quite easily. The brass rod was filed and then pressed into the sheet after a quick coat of Tammy extra thin. As you can see it's very easy to slip with this. Close up of brass rod indents after sanding. Close up of dental burr indents (3 and 2mmØ) sanded only Close up of the indents that got coated in TET, then stippled with a stiff brush and sanded.
