Hi all,
Was not really sure if I should place the progress of my Group build here or under the Land of the Rising sun, but I guess that one is more for final pictures of a ready model. Anyhow, I have been a little ill, so progress has not been great. After the poor quality Trumpeter Liberty ship, this Tamiya model is a real joy. Everything seems to fit nicely, so only a small amount filling/fairing needed. I managed to glue my first ever degaussing cable, which was actually surprisingly easy. The original moulded one was very good but once again I wanted to train more the PE stuff. I purchased also a nice Infini PE set for the torpedo rails, which I think is a must since the moulded ones are far too thick. It was a bit of a struggle to get them removed and not to destroy the fine deck details. However, now I ran into some issues because for the rails I need to drill 130 holes through deck (diameter 0,3 mm!). I tried it with my pen drill, but that was hopeless. Does anyone know if Trumpeters electric grinder/cutter/drill is worth the investment (see the picture)? Some more PE work with torpedo launchers...

Very nice ship modelling. Your etched work is very impressive. Please feel free to put your build in The Land of the Rising Sun. It really doesn’t matter if you go over the end date. Looking forward to your updates.

At least once in a year one needs to get away from this what we call "civilization" (in order to keep some kind of sanity ). Amazing week of hiking in Finnish Lapland around Muotka hills.
And then you tackle again the challengies that lie ahead. Like practising airbrushing (since I found out that I have lost some important parts from the model, hopefully Tamiya can help).

I think I need a year in the Finish Lapland to get my airbrushing close to that

OK, enough practising, now it is the real thing. Have to say that it is a joy to work with proper tools and it also helps that these sites gives you advice on how to avoid some of the mistakes. I have tried to follow maestro Immonen's tips by using Tamiya colors with Mr Color Leveling thinner (50/50) and it works like a treat. Pressure below 1,5 bar and it still flows beautifully. I received from Dan Kaplan a nice picture of the Kagero framing, but noticed immediately that it is impossible to follow that accurately. Frame spacing is around 600 mm in the bow & aft and around 900 mm in the middle section. So in 1/350 spacing would be 1,7 mm and 2,6 mm. I roughly doubled that with 3/5 mm. I think it looks OK. I will try to get a result where the frames gradually disappear towards the stern, since the largest hull panels and highest forces are in the bow area. Do not know if that is correct but according to some photos, this would have been the case.
