Those details add a lot of realism to the build fella!

Little progress: added some weathering on the engine (AK Int "Engine grime") and started to paint the exhaust pipes. These modern acrylic colours are amazing, just check the smooth surface with Vallejo Metal Color "Exhaust manifold"! Far better than Tami's acrylic ones. At least for a novice like myself...
Also added a pair of grilles inside the front wheel wells (do not know what are they for?). Stole them from my Miura PE set, so they do not fit properly, but they are hardly visible behind the wheels.
Replaced the seat belts with Tamiya's AM kit because I really did not like the Meng kit version.
Finally, started to make my own hose for the cooling of front brakes, because could not find a suitable one. Some plastic foil and copper wiring - no idea if it will work, but just have to give it try...

Completed the weathering of exhaust pipes: added some A-Stand Burnt Iron on the pipes closer to the engine (the hottest areas) and some AK int Rust Streakes on the aft end to represent minor corrosion. Finished everything with some Ultimate Pigments Earth & Mud (I saw a video by another GT40 modeller on this). I think it turned out to be fairly decent though I do not know if it is really realistic. Closed everything with some matt varnish to dampen the gloss.
Finally, some assembly work: managed to put the engine in place and surprise: no major hickup. It was tight and needed to cut some material to create space for the distributor (thanks Boots for the warning!) but otherwise ok.
Added those front brake cooling hoses which did not go too well because the bending radius was too tight for my scratch made hose. But it looks decent from the outside.
I have also tried to proceed with the painting of the body, but there has been too major issues. I decided to go with the Zero Paints Ken Miles Blue colour and it has been a struggle. For some reason, I get several small purple dots all over the body. Definetely not any dirt from my airbrush (always clean it between colours). Have tried to sand it and repaint but still the same problem. Decided to accept that and to have a heavy weathering representing the car after the race.
Also wanted to test a new clear varnish from A-Stand. But that SOB does not cure ! After 24 hours I put the model in the oven (2 hours with 50 degrees), but no major help. According to Finnish modellers site, this has happened to other modellers too. I have had no issues with their metallic colours??? So now the lower body is full with finger marks and dirt, AARGH!
Finally, a question for you more experienced car/truck modellers: how do you prepare the rubber tyres for decals? Clear varnish or someting else?

I still recommend the Mission models Arcadian Blue karih......it`s made for the Ken Miles GT40. As for tyres, i scrub the road surface and the sides i simply clean with some ISO alcohol to take any mold residue off, these low profile race tyres don`t have much side wall any way, once the decs are on i simply brush some Vallejo matt varnish over the decals and leave to dry
You did good with the wiring harness fella..........fits very nicely

While waiting for the warmer weather (-20 this morning => no AB painting possible), I finished the wheels for GT40.
BOOTS: I noticed that you did not have the blue stripes for the tyres. Did you leave them away by purpose (I read somewhere that not all tyres had them) or did you have the same "luck" as I did. I placed the first decals before mounting the tyres on the wheels and all looked good. But when I mounted the tyres, all decals came loose. So I made a second attempt but this time the blue stripes exploded in small pieces so I abandoned them altogether (they also seem to have the wrong diameter making it difficult to fit the "Goodyear"-decal). Finally, I added some weathering for the tyres: first some buff colour on the "Goodyear"-decal to tone down the white and then I sprayed Tami XF-63 German grey to animate the dirt on tyres. At last I sprayed some flat varnish to seal everything off.
Also, added some first decals onto the lower body. Tried also cover the varnish disaster by adding some heavy weathering onto the bottom panel.

A SPECIAL THANKS TO PAUL B!
After trying several things in order to overcome the paint issues with Zero Paints Ken Miles Light Blue, I nearly gave up. Luckily, Maestro Paul managed to convince me and I ordered an ultra sonic cleaner. After cleaning my airbrush (which turned out to be like new) and mixing the paint with US for 10 minutes, everything worked just fine. The paint sprayed without any hickups and the purple dots visible earlier in the paint disappeared and the finish is almost perfect. My humble and best thanks to Paul! This is the best thing in this group, that you always get help when needed.

Now that the issue with the body colour is solved (at least I hope so!), it is time to add the red flames around headlights. I created a custom mask tape by using the included decal as a template. I sealed the masking tape with flat clear (another excellent tip from this site) and it worked like a charm. Next some clear varnish before the decals and final varnishing...

Beautiful paint fella.
I know it's a bit late now but I also used IPA to clean the tyres but then I help fix the decal with thinned PVA glue. I give the whole thing a wash of it to stop dust sticking to the rubber too
