I was late from the very start and now I forgot to add my build here! Apologies for that !
As I told before, this was inspired by the movie "Ford vs. Ferrari" which tells a story of Ken Miles and the development of Ford GT40. After a serious of failures, Ford was able to secure 1-2-3 win at 1966 Le Mans. The overwhelming soon-to-be winner Miles was ordered to slow down in order to get all the Fords side by side over the finish line which lead to a situation where car #2 driven by Bruce McLaren was announced as a winner. So team orders were present already during 60's... ! Whatever is the truth, by the fact remains that Miles was an extraordinary talent, both as a driver & mechanic.
While waiting for the final parts & paints for my Miura build, I managed start with Ford by spraying some primer and putting some pieces together (brakes, engine etc.). My first impression is that this Meng model is of high quality, far better than Hasegawa's Miura.

Will you be doing the same colour as Boots did or are you choosing a different colour?

Needed to take a short break from Miura, so I decided to push forward with GT40. Unfortunately Boots raised the bar so high, so this is not going to be easy...
I have now most of the parts prepainted (in the fret as much as possible), but as also Boots noticed, Meng instructions are not correct in regards of the individual components. The three available Le Mans cars did not have the same body colour, they also had variations in regards other parts. But luckily, the are plenty of nice web sites where one can have fairly accurate information (like gt40.rkmotorscharlotte.com/restoration/). Also, several videos exist for the actual Ken Miles car:
Anyhow, there is no point in getting stuck with minor details, so I am proceeding with pre-assembly of components. Meng model is of good quality, parts fit nicely and details are fairly good. Still, I wanted to add something, so I decided to scratch build the ventilation for the front brakes. This was otherwise straightforward, but I have not been able to find a small diameter plastic hose with thin enough walls. One modeller did this in Meng's 1/12th GT40 (https://scalespot.com/onthebench/gt40-meng/build.php), so it is a bit odd that Meng has abandoned this detail.
Engine build has been easy, but also here the issue was to decide the different colours. It seems that there has been a lot of various versions. Anyhow, I will follow Boots example and add some heavy weathering (will try out AK Interactive Engine grime). I would like to add the ignition cables, we will see how that succeeds:
I struggled a bit with the colour choise for the interior, but with help from Boots, I found out a suitable colour. Unfortunately, I had already painted with the wrong one, so ended up in having to remove all the paint work and start from the beginning. And when I finally got it right, I noticed that the position for fire extinquisher was wrong: it should be transversally mounted not longitudinally. So need to do some fixing there.
Also, managed to finish the rear suspension.
Finally, I want to create the car as it was after the race and I also wanted to test some chipping, so I am going to try out Ammo Mig Scratches Effect. The problem here is that the front body was made of fibre glass and I have not seen what kind of primer they used (if any). So I decided to go for alloy colour underneath the final body colour (Zero Paints ZP1640). Probably not correct, but I will use my artistic freedom !

Amazing things one learns through modelling: I now know a firing sequence fora V8-engine (actually there are several of those ). Probably not very important issue for a model car, but I wanted to have the ignition cables in right order. Since I do not have fancy AM parts, I made the spark plugs from 0,8 mm wire and cables from 0,17 mm copper. Since I was unsure for the colour of cables (have seen both blue & orange ones), I decided to leave them unpainted. Not very professional, but will do...
I also learned that you should not mask a painted area, where there is chipping fluid underneath (or maybe I just screwed up ?). Anyhow, one more thing to fix before final paint & lacquer.
Finally, added some details (battery cables, fire extinquisher) and light weathering for the cockpit.

Great work karih Regarding the distributor wiring...........i did try that but there was hardly any room to get all them wires where they should run, maybe had i had some thinner wire it might just have worked but i was using the 1/24th correct wire....i found where the wire protrudes out of the disributor cap itself it fouled on the upper bodyparts...... might be worth a dry run to see karih. I`ll put some pics to show you the clearance between the rear firewall and the top, back part where the engine goes under the firewall...the distributor sits quite a ways back under the firewall.
If you double click the pics you can see them bigger
.....it is tricky but you might be able to prove me wrong

Thanks all for your nice comments! I am not at Boots level, but one has to try ! Special thanks to Boots for the warning! I definetely need to check that one. I hope it will fit because those distributor wires give a lot of creditability. But, I guess it is always good to do some dry fitting before glueing things permanently.

A good way out if you really want to add the leads is to `dummy` run them where they can be seen karih..........no-one can see behind the engine to see the distributor so they don`t need to be inserted, simply tuck what you don`t need away behind the engine and just show the main run
Thanks for the complimentry words karih `tis very much appreciated, my one is by no means perfect but it`s good enough for me , it sits next to me on the bench wrapped up in a small bag to keep the dust off........i still have a couple of bits to do before i call her finished, yours might inspire me to push this 99% shelf queen over the line . Did you get the Mission Model paint colour for this btw or are you going free-lance and make ya own .
Another point i might add is don`t add to much detail to the engine at this point.........i mentioned about the drive-shaft problem fitting to either side of the engine and you may find you have to man-handle it somewhat whilst checking/addressing any fit issues........i`m hoping mine might have been driver error but i don`t think it was.............the shafts were barely long enough to reach the block!!
Anything else i think of i`ll let ya know bud
