I got myself a reasonably cheap Valentine at "On-Track" with a view to building a conversion that I saw in Cyprus last year. It requires quite a bit of surgery which I have started whilst awaiting the arrival of the white stuff. Never really attempted anything like this but you have to start somewhere I guess. This is where I am at present. and this is the intended destination. Tim

Very nice! So what what is the role of that version in the photos?
Best wishes,

Ian, Back in the 60's there was a dust up between the greek and turkish Cypriots. This Valantine was being used in a quarry with no turret. As the greek side had very little armour it was requisitioned and the "Doghouse" added. It was crewed by 2 people. The driver and one person standing in the box armed with a bren gun. In effect it is a mobile pillbox. It is now one of the exhibits in the new Cyprus Defence Force museum in Nicosia. There are several other vehicles in the yard so here is a peek at some of the others. Unfortunately the museum was closed when I was there and I had to take the pictures through the railings. Tim

What a greats idea for a conversion..........some nice big flat surfaces to scratch which will help considerably so i don`t think you`ll have any probs knocking this into shape Tim

Paul B, Jeff, Ian H, Pete, Boots, DukeM & Paul H, Thanks for looking in and the kind comments on this little bit of madness. Will try my best to do it some justice. Right, time for an update. Engine covers in place and the drivers area plated up. "Doghouse" started so a bit of sticky tape and time to see if the proportions look about right. I have done all this by eye, as I have no drawings, but I'll hope for the best. Apart from my pictures and three or four contemporary b&w photos that is all the guidance I have. With this last picture I have tried to get an angle like one of my reference pictures. Looks like it is about right I think. The real fun will start when I start the roof of the "Doghouse" More soon and as ever ACW. Tim

I thought the doghouse was a little high , but after skipping back and fourth between the build and the real vehicle, I'd now say it's spot on Tim .

Been a while since last update since when I started again with the "Doghouse". Wasn't comming out as I wished so version 2 after much head scratching Shape is much better and whilst not perfect I will call it quits and move on. Just ordered some Archer Weld lines to tidy up the joints. ACW Tim
