Boots' outstanding HEMTT build has really inspired me to build one of my own. I have been also been wanting to do a really weathered, worn-out armor project as well; one that I can put all these Vallejo weathering sets to use with. My plan is to build a post-apocalyptic U.S. Army HEMTT Gun Truck using the Italeri kit. The Italeri kit is not bad and they have the only gun-truck variant in town. However, the wheels are horrible so I got a set of DEF resin wheels recently and they look really nice. This should be a good subject for weathering and there is plenty of room for stowage and various mods as well so this should be really fun. Best wishes, Ian

Thanks Paul!, Yeah, I am really looking forward to this, especially as an experiment in heavy weathering.

I gotta watch this. I also want to do a HEMMTT gun truck in 1/72 scale only not post-apocalyptic. This will be informative.
I still need to do a few M-35 gun trucks too...

Thanks for stopping in everyone! I am really looking forward to this project. I did some work on the chassis and the the Italeri moldings are pretty crisp. The only downside I have really seen is the wheels but the DEF Resin set will fix that. The castings on the DEF wheels are really beautiful and I think they will look great on the model. Soooooooo, since this is a Post Apocalypse build I have been pondering some mods and let me know what you guys think: 1) Vertical telescoping boom surveillance camera on the cargo bed to peek over hills and down streets full of marauders and walkers. 2) Some type of enclosed shelter in part of the cargo bed to provide cover for the crew and electronics. I was thinking about fabricating the shelter with pieces of sheet stock weathered to simulate metal plates. I also was thinking about heavy tagging and graffiti on some of the metal to show it was scavenged off a building somewhere. And maybe a gun position on top of the shelter. 3) Multiple pintle mounted M-2 Brownings and MK-19's for weapons. (Provided in the kit but may add additional from spares box) 4) Heavy stowage for the crew and survivors 5) Some type of blade or cow-catcher on the front of the cab to clear obstacles from highways and roads (what is left of them). 6) Maybe some type of small scratch-built drone for the crew to use for long range surveillance. Anyway, just some thoughts. Have a great day, everybody! Ian

All the ideas sound good Ian, the chassis looks great and the wheels are just too horny fella How about a little mesh screening on a frame in front of the windscreen ?

I like some of those ideas. Cool! Maybe take a few from the War Rig in "Mad Max" too.
Looking forward to seeing more.
