Here you go chaps, I think it only right to share this with you as there's guaranteed a few others who would like to build a Zero . Here's the answer from the man: "Dear Mr. Paul Badman Thank you for your inquiry. To express the colour in words is too difficult, so we attach a Japanese magazine about Zero Fighter for model making. Alternatively, please google (copy & paste) “零戦 コクピット 画像”, which means "Zero Fighter, cockpit, picture" in Japanese. We hope you to make good work! Best regards, " Here's the link from the Japanese text a6m232.server-shared.com/CCP.htmlAnd finally, the pics from a PDF they sent me:

Wow! That is a fantastic piece of research material. That should about settle any lingering questions about Zero interiors. I will definitely save that as a I have a Hasegawa 1/48th Zero Type 52 in the stash for future use. Thanks for sharing Paul!!
Best wishes,
Ian

Chaps I must admit that I really surprised at the answer from Mitsubishi, but then again the Japanese are really thorough in what they do. If you ask a simple question they will certainly help, no matter what the issue. Bravo to them indeed Now what did Steve wish to know.....

Chaps I tried my hand at the cockpit interior today . The colour wasn't too bad until I glossed it . It now looks too dark but that is summink I'm going to live with now. I have asked for a 1/32 version for x-mas, so if I get one I shall remember to the colour lighter . Here's a few pics for you The decals are still settling down Motor, this I painted with a mix of black and steel from Vallejo, then it got a wash of gold enamel from Revell (very thin) , then came a wash mixed of blue and black oils. Next will be a polishing with a graphite contaminated hairy stick. Exhausts Now I have run into a huge problem, I primed the cowling with Edding primer, but the sodding stuff has melted the cowling cover . It now looks like shark skin, I certainly can't sand smooth as the primer seems to have made the plastic become very hard. Not sure what to do, I shall probably just have to live with it.

At the risk of teaching your Grandmother to suck eggs... What about dry brushing the cockpit with a lighter colour , it’ll bring it up a bit ?
I had something similar with Xtracolour enamel thinner , it burnt into the plastic. I painted a think coat of Tamiya Acrylic over the top and sanded that back to reduce the effect.
All that said, it looks great buddy B)

Cockpit & bits look nice mate, that's a weird reaction with the primer though.

Cheers Pete . And yes it is a tad annoying with reaction of the primer, I have used it before and everything was okay, what's even odder it's only the cowling that was affected. I've had the same thing with Vallejo rattle can grey primer, and that on a couple of kits. So I stopped using that now, this Edding stuff will now go into the cellar

Boots, Ian, Marco, cheers chaps . I reckon I have got the cowling sorted . Steve you are a bloody hero fella, I slapped on a layer of Tamiya paint per hairy stick last night, sanded it back this afternoon and voila , repair job done . I owe you a beer or two for that

Okay chaps here's the re-worked cockpit paint job and the repaired cowl . I chose not to dry brush the innards, and went full risk with AB and my cruddy painting skills . I mixed a lighter colour of the base mix, thinned this quite a bit and sprayed at just over 1bar with my cheapo AB and a 0.3mm nozzle . To be honest I'm quite proud of this .
