Another oldie. Looks a reasonable build with wonderful pre-moulded shrouds and ratlines. More complicated rig than I've attempted before, so lots of simplifacation. The actual ship herself is moored over in the USA, so reference isn't lacking.

Progrees. She's going together easily enough. The masts have taken on a 'set' maybe due to being in the packaging for 40 years(?) Anyway I'll need to straighten them out before I proceed. The plastic is hard and brittle so some care will be needed. Managed it by the application of hot water without breaking anything. Cross-trees and upper shrouds fitted. The whole lot plus sails will now be primed and the masts unplugged to get access to the main deck. The bowsprit is going to be at risk from now on.

Glad you got the masts worked out. No Captain would tolerate that kind of warpage. Best wishes, Ian

Rough painting done, currently sticking sails onto masts; the rigging will have to go where it can, not necessarily where it should in some cases

Looks great in her primer coat! And the masts look great, too, after your reshaping project.
Best wishes,

Ooops. A serious problem has turned up. With the sails fitted to the masts as per the instructions they foul the port side whale boats, so basically is model the wrong rig and should be a three-masted barque rather than three masted full rig? Looking at various illustrations of the real ship over her career doesn't help as there are discrepancies between almost all of them. A choice of solutions present themselves: 1. Carry out surgery on the mizzen mast to turn it into a barque mizzen as well as remove the main and fore courses and re-fit them at a more forward billow to avoid the boats. 2. Remove the mizzen course sail and re-position the main and fore as in 1, leaving the rest of the mizzen mast as is. 3. Remove all three lower sails from the masts and discard them. Looking like option 2., falling back on option 3.

A bit of a problem for sure even though I have no idea what a mizzen is! I'm sure you'll sort it out

The mizzen is the big stick at the blunt end I'll get a result of some kind though what that result might be I wouldn't like to say.

Not a clue either . But as Pete said, I'm sure you'll sort it George A mizzen......think of it as a wooden stick (except smaller) .......like what you used to beat up the guys in the 14th/20th King's Hussars after you 17th/21st Lancer heathens got into the Famous Grouse with your Ramones shirt tied around your head like Rambo.
