So matt varnish on and waiting overnight to cure before adding some filters to bring a bit of vibrancy back. In the meantime it’s bonus build time. The Airfix Snatch Land Rover in 1/48 which is part of a dual Land Rover set I bought in the ModelZone (remember them) closing down sale. Mostly dry fitted at the moment.

No one ever expects the Snatch Land Rover. It’s quite a nice little dinky kit although the plastic is slightly soft for my liking but that seems to be an Airfix thing. The parts are also a tight fit which is great for making sure everything is lined up but not so good when it comes to painting sub-assemblies. Weirdly enough Mrs J. has already asserted dibs on the WMIK Land Rover, also in the set, as she likes Jeeps.

After a short break working out how to install Win10 to get my new graphics enabled with GSync without actually paying MS but instead reusing my Win7 license I’ve returned to this one somewhat slowly but getting there. The slight scare was after I’d applied a couple of coats of Humbrol spray can matt varnish the finish was a bit grainy/powdery to say the least and the whole look was dulled down. A bit of a rub and then a very light application of Klear brought a bit of life back to it. Next up paint those exhausts, exhaust stains, gun stains and then put the canopies on to call it done.

Damn fine work again on the old whispering death too.

I think I’ll call this done for at least now. Very enjoyable build and learnt some more things about doing aircraft. Right then, time to tidy up the work area (how do they get like that?) and decide what’s up next. Probably back to the Deathstar and building the Bogward.

Very pugnacious looking Pug fella. Great result! Thanks Steve and probably the most positive thing is that this build has got me over the hurdle of masking canopies. I still don't find it easy but it's just not the complete PITA that I thought it was.

Duke/Pete, thanks guys and the shelf queen that is the Armstrong Whitworth Whitley in costal command service has been eyeing me up. This one I have got a canopy masking set for. I just wish I knew an easy way of actually getting the pieces of the mask off the backing especially for the really small ones. I think I might go down the masking fluid route for those ones!
