Thank you Paul and Pete. Much appreciated. It was going all so well until this I was going to apply a couple of decals. First I was going to put on a wash underneath the decal location so if the paint stained, the area under the carrier film would look the same as the rest of the paint. When I put it on, the varnish started to lift. At first I thought it was a reaction to the wash, but even with clear water it lifts off. It's been well over 24 hours since I varnished the model using the same brand of paint, thinner and varnish. Have any of you other lads had this problem with Ammo Mig? I'd appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Bloody hell, that is some reaction there. Never heard of this happening Joe, but then again I use more Vallejo and Tamiya paints. I have some Mig washes, but this has never happened when I apply them.

Thank you Paul. I did use a Vallejo wash, I thought that was what caused it, that's why I tried clear water. When I had the same reaction with the water, I couldn't understand it.

This is so bizar? You didn't use agressive products. I hope you will turn the tide an finish this build.

No Guy. I only used Ammo products on it including the primer. I need to sort this soon, or I will loose interest. The good thing is it's the same all over, and not stuck on properly anywhere. I've been washing it off with water and my wife's toothbrush. . Hopefully I can get the rest off tomorrow.

Soak it overnight in a solution of washing power. Any paint water based paint that hasn’t cured will wash off easily Bloody shame though it was looking great!

Flippin` `eck Joe.......never used Ammo so can`t comment on those,i have had `crazing` occur before.....i was building the Bentley 4.2 and used my usual primer and then layered the Zero paints Bentley racing green and got a beautiful gloss finish.......until the next day!!!!!, the chassis was fine but all the mudguards and fenders had crazed all over.........lost interest and put it in the loft over a year ago.........found it the other week and dug it out only to find every bit of crazing had disappeared and it was perfect........work that one out!! I`ve taken many a build back from paint stage and did a re-start........a real PITA but some times ya glad ya did as the second time around more often than not yields the happier result.........stick with it mucker......it`s only another primer coat

Thank you for your help and advice Steve and, Boots. It come off really easy, I put it in a bowl of water and brushed it off. I'll give it another top coat, and take it from there.

Joe, I have not seen that happen regarding that type of reaction. Glad you were able to repair it and the M-51 is looking fine, thus far.

Serious reaction that! I've never been a fan of ammo/mig varnishes as I've had bad results before. Not sure that the varnish is water based but even so it should not react like that after a good 24 hours drying. Personally for a gloss I usually use johnsons Klear, the floor shine stuff which is now called something else I think. Or my other favorite which is alclad aqua gloss. Both work well & I've never had issues with washes over the top both acrylic & oil based. My guess is this is a bad batch of varnish from ammo so I'd advise trying something else. If you are adding water/acrylic based washes then perhaps a spirit based gloss would also be useful?

I used ammo/mig thinner with it. It said on the bottle no thinning needed, but it was a little to thick. I gave it a good couple of minutes mixing before I used it to make sure it had no lumps in it and applied it in light coats. The only blessing was, it just simply washed off the model with water. I've sprayed the top coat agaian with no problems. That can have a couple of days to dry just in case. I have emailed them explaining what I done, and could they shed any light on what happened. I'll let you know if I hear anything back. Thanks again for everyone's help and advice.

After the varnish problem I repainted the upper hull and turret. Then I gave the whole thing another wash only to find I'd missed some little bits of the varnish 🙄 So I had to clean it off again 😕 Third time lucky, I've recoated it with the wash and painted it again. The wash looks a bit darker than it does in the photo. I'm going to give some top sections a lighter coat to see how that works out.

Glad to see a good recovery on the set back there but I did have a chuckle that it’s called lucky varnish. Maybe they should rename it to, do you feel lucky varnish.
