Now those stickers have behaved well Yes, surprised myself. They are excellent quality so just needed Tamiya Mark fit and they molded on perfectly.

Maybe I'm belated, but to solve the problem of metallic blue you could apply some clear blue paint over the silver or aluminium color. Thanks Marco. Tried it but opted to stay with as is.

Highlighted the panels as best I could with black panel line. Not sure what to do next, though.

Seal the panel lining, then start adding stains back from the cowl and the spent case ejection ports

Thanks Paul, snipersmudge and PorcoRosso. Decided to dry brush flat aluminum on the front of the wings and the with a sponge, chipped away at it. Now given it a Matt coat and here is the latest. Not sure I like it to be honest. Looked at some other builds on YouTube and it’s comparable I suppose. Everyone seems to criticize the panel lines on the kit. Well, hey, mine could be a lot worse. This turned out not so bad, but standing on it and breaking the front part didn’t help. Add some stains and then finish the build in time to start the next GB.

Tommy you have to remember how old this kit is, for its age it is good I reckon. You are doing a grand job fella, stick at her my bro . A tip for the canopy on future builds; if I haven't got the correct masking, which I usually never have, I add Tamiya tape to the glazing. Then with a tooth pick, I push it up against the frame. This gives you a good demarcation. Then with a sharp no.11 blade, I cut around the demarcation line which gives you a masked glazed area. Gently pull the tape from the frame parts and hey.... you have near to, or perfect masked glazing. You can then mask off the complete canopy inner and spray like mad with the AB without any probs. Just remember to spray the interior colour first, and then the outer camo colour

You done a great job on what is an old kit Tommy. It still looks very good despite it's age.

I agree with all the comments buddy, you’ve made a great job of this old kit. I use the same trick to mask the canopy as Paul suggested, just tack your time and it’ll be fine.
I’d use a light grey oil wash. Apply it and leave it to almost dry then using a lint free tissue that’s damp with enamel thinner , wipe off the excess in the direction of the airflow. This’ll give depth and directional staining on the wings etc

Thanks PorcoRosso Steve and Paul. Very reassuring comments. Steve - I used black panel line for the streaking. Will do some more today.
As for the masking I did similar. I used the masking tape trick but laid it against the frame. I used clear to seal it, then the frame colour. I did one section at a time.

Thanks Marco. Feeling better about the bird now. Plus with a little bit of rust effect on the canopy -

You and Ian have inspired me to grab a quick build Japanese WWII bird from the stash, that’s how much I like your progress buddy

Something in the air lately with Japanese WW2 fighters. A fellow modeler and friend of mine here locally just cranked out two Ki-84s which were incredible.

Thanks a bunch everyone. As it’s my first attempt at a wings, I am rather pleased with the result. Not too shabby considering the age and the price of the model.
