Thanks so much, guys! Yes, that Tamiya White with Tamiya Thinner really laid down well. So, I was rooting around for photos of TA-4Js from VF-126, the squadron I want to depict and in typical Ian fashion ran into an issue. (Of course this was going too smoothly). The plane I planned to build is the second one on the Superscale sheet from VF-126: But every photo I found of VF-126 birds looked like this: FOR ILLUSTRATIVE PURPOSES ONLY The trim appeared to be in blue on all the VF-126 birds from that timeframe and I could not find any photos of any of their TA-4Js trimmed in red. I really wanted to stick with the white and trainer red/orange scheme. Fortunately I keep all the extra decals from built kits and just happened to have a complete set of VT-7 decals from a Hasegawa TA-4J. I tested one of the decals to make sure they were good (harken back to the Ki-61 kit decal issue) and all seemed well. Also, Hasegawa gives the option of using decals that incorporate the red trim or just painting the red trim yourself and then adding the relevant decals on top. I went with that option and used the Mission Models Insignia Red which had just the right amount of orange tint in it. I got the red trim sprayed on and it sprayed really well. I will let that cure up and then it will be time for some panel line work.

Now that is some heavy duty masking Ian Good choice with the MM red there, it looks exactly the same as the decal colour

High contrast colours can be a paint but that 3M tape should work for you Ian. Decal colours can be a problem too but I think you’ve sorted that
