All set for this group build! I will be building the Classic Airframes TA-4J Skyhawk in 1/48th scale and depicting an aircraft from VF-126 which supported the fleet by training pilots and also functioning in the adversary role to hone air combat skills. The Classic Airframes kit is a really nice model and comes with a full suite of resin and nice recessed panel lines. I will be using Superscale Decals to depict the 2nd option on the sheet in the Trainer Red and Insignia White Scheme. Stay tuned!.

Well, I started on the TA-4J and was kind of holding my breath because some Classic Airframes kits can get a little tricky. However, the fit so far has been fine. After priming the cockpit parts, I sprayed them with Vallejo FS36231 Dark Gull Grey. I also added a Burnt Umber wash to highlight the recesses in the cockpit tubs. I painted the instrument panels, glued in the joysticks and then installed the tubs in the fuselage. After adding weight and modeling clay to the nose section, I glued the fuselage sections together and the fit was very good. There were no locater pins so I had to be careful and get everything lined up right. I installed the intakes and the fit on these was excellent as well. However, like most jet kits, the intake trunks are a mess so I will be adding intake and exhaust covers. Stay tuned............
