Good evening all, This will be my first project/blog started from scratch on here and has a specific personal historical interest for me. When I first joined the RAF as a Regiment Gunner back in Dec '83 my first Station was RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire. At that time it was home to VC10s and Tristars and a few months into my time there I had my first military flight. After a coach trip down to Lyneham I was strapped to a stretcher and carried aboard a VC10 as part of a casualty evacuation exercise. A fifteen minute flight later and we were back at Brize and from that point forward I had a fondness for the big old whale tailed bird. So with that in mind and after a sneaky online auction win I've acquired this... Here's what's in the box. The build starts tomorrow. Hope you'll enjoy the ride.

I remember seeing these lined up a RAF Abingdon still in their British Airways colours ready for spares harvesting in the late 70’s as a kid. Many years later VC 10 was also the first (and hopefully the last!) aircraft where I’ve used the emergency exit onto the wing. I was carrying out a safety consultation for the RAF on wing access at Brize Norton.
So needless to say I’ll follow with interest Andy.

Good evening everyone, and so it begins. Ian, Paul and Steve, Welcome aboard! In answer to your question Ian, I'm sticking with the camouflage scheme as it is unusual to see. Interesting Story Steve I'll try to do this justice. Here we go then. Stage 1 and 2 The last photo shows the age of the kit. 1983, coincidentally the year I joined up.

Nice start, Andy, and will be watching this one with great interest! Don't think I have seen a built-up VC-10 before and I love tanker aircraft.

Nice start matey ......looks to be nice `n` straight Thanks Boots. Considering its age, it does look good. Just discovered one issue though which will be dealt with shortly.

Also in Stage 2 the cockpit transparency is fitted and I say 'fitted' in the loosest sense of the word. It fits where it touches Ive only glued one side at this point. I'll let it set before a bit of persuasion for the other end. I'm doing this one in flight so the undercarriage will be dispensed with. Gear doors have been fitted as directed in Stage 3. Quite a good fit.

This looks a great plane Andy.
I spent all day on a Herc when I was 17 flying weapons around for a battalion re location and loved them ever since
