After seeing Prof's Tamiya AMG GT3 build of last year I got inspired to build one as well. I'm a huge fan of the GT World Challenge series (sprint and endurance cup) - formally known as the Blancpain series. I don't only watch the series but I also race in it - virtual that is, in the game Assetto Corsa Competizione. My favourite car to drive is the Bentley Continental GT3, but since that one doesn't exist in plastic kit I settled for the Merc. I decided to throw in some extra goodies. The basekit is amazin with the usual Tamiya quality, and a lot of great stuff. However, that can be further enhanced. Hobby Design made an upgrade kit for it, which comes with plenty of etch, Pirelli spray masks for the tyres and much more. I also bought a carbon fibre decal set. A start was made with the body. Great fit in general, just some seams to fill here and there. I had to prime and sand some seams 4-5 times!!!! Well, this sure is different level dudu than armour Hopefully the body is ready for some paint after the next layer of primer Pedals were assembled as well. Tiny stuff, but well engineered. The brake disks received their fair bit of etch as well, and after painting I added a thin pinwash to make the detail pop. (These small parts are difficult to photograph well though...) And finally, the steering wheel was painted. The Mercedes logo is a metal decal/sticker provided by Tamiya. Ace stuff. To simulate the Alcantara grips I mixed some thinned white glue with a combination of black pigment powder and flower. This was applied with an old brush (the wheel was masked before that) and fixed with an extra application of thin white glue. I'll add a larger photo here so the detail hopefully is visible. And that's how she stands at the moment....well, more or less

Glad to have you lot with me for the ride. And Prof, well I'll try to do the kit justice, yours was already ace! Quite fed up with that car building though. Some of the smaller gaps I needed to fill turn out to be quite the sturdy bastards. After 7 filling and sanding sessions I hope it did the trick this time (filled with Mr. Surfacer 500, next time Mr. Surfacer 1500, next time Mr. Surfacer 1500 thinned with some lacquer thinner, some more, etc. This time I added thin ca glue to the smaller gap and I hope that it's smooth now). After 8 primer applications I really want to start with the colour paints

The devil is in the detail fella.....all the fixing/filling etc will be worth it in the end

Well let's hope so. Can't make a rusty wreck out of it when things go tits up. Can't imagine carbon fibre rusting

Ya might have to invent the weathered `carbon fibre` look......

Boots: LOL Thanks for the vote of confidence Jeff Well then...some two more filling and sanding sessions and the gaps finally dissapeared...think that's 8 or 9 filling/sanding/priming sessions in total When the primer was finally applied, I sprayed a layer of Mr. Hobby H1 Gloss white. Sadly I forgot to take a photo of that. After that, some extensive masking was needed. This was followed by gloss black. Well, the car is partly black in reality. However I didn't want to spray on black because...it's too black . So I mixed Mr. Hobby H-2 Gloss Black with a tad of Gloss White. Quite happy with the look, though it's not 100% perfect. There is some minor overspray here and there (seems the masking wasn't done properly) and some of the edges between the colours aren't 100%. So a question for the car/plane/shiny thing builders amongst us: How do I tackle the overspray and the rugged edges? Wetsanding lightly with 2000 and after that even finer? Also, first time ever that my Tamiya tape left some marks on the white paint, maybe because it didn't cure enough...It's not really visible and hopefully that will be gone after decalling and varnishing. Or so I hope. Still lot's of fun to come. The black needs to be varnished satin or matt in contrast to the gloss white

looking good Wouts Moving over to a different subject brings a different set of modelling skills to the table, interested to how you’ll overcome the paint but think your probably right with the wet sanding.

Firstly Wout`s that is a super looking Black application Secondly....i too have had issues with Tam tape of stuff with contours like this. I now tend to make a border with 1mm Tam tape and once i`ve got the shape i dress it all down with a blunt cocktailstick.........then i add a 5mm width and fill with the larger tape on the bulk area.......that`s my method anyway, i expect you probably do similar Thirdly....the over-spray is a pain, unlike any armour paintwork you can`t just lose it........not on shiny builds ,maybe do as you say and go wit a nice gentle wet micro soft cloth maybe 8000 grit and then 12000 it may well buff it out, or even a dampened cotton bud... Other then you mentioning it i`d never know.....but....i do know what standard you set your bar at tho

Holy freakin moly Wouts To me it looks darned good indeed. I can see the slight over spray bits, but a remedy for this I don't have. Sorry but being a bog standard, dirty armor modeler I can't help you there.
