Looks much better and yes Tamiya paints do have that slightly grainy look. What I found worked for me (this was more by accident than design) was following my normal route of base coat, Klear, oil washes/filters/weathering etc. and unlike armour not finishing off with a coat of matt varnish. You end up with a slightly satin finish that I quite like. Off course if you’re doing a ‘cleaner’ build that’s just not going to work.
Looking forward to see how you tackle the black as I think that’s a hard finish to get in-scale.

Guy, Pete, Jase, cheers chaps . I hope to get some toning done on the black paint today. I don't wish to go overboard with this, as this aircraft was used primarily at night and with that, there was very little sunlight to fade out the colour . As Steve already mentioned, the control surfaces will all get a greyer shade, probably anthracite, well see later

Paul, great use of different colors to get a nice, modulated top coat. Black schemes can be tough to pull off but looks like you are nailing it.

I have just tried Paul's mix for the black finish on his Defiant Night Fighter. I tried mixing it in one of the large Tamiya mixing jars and its hard to judge a couple of ml of one colour. As a consequence it needs a tad more black for the final coat. It is far, far better than just plain Matt Black 😊

Joe thank you ole chap, and yes it was a tad trying indeed Sarah, the Vallejo colours are by far more productive, the pigment to thinner mix is extremely high. Also don't use those large jars, try something like a deodorizer lid and just stir the mix instead of shaking . I am however glad to hear that it worked out for you . I hope to get back on this tomorrow, this Sunday is my day off so I don't need to cook lunch

Well then, high time to get this moving again . I just spent 3 hours adding the main stickers , believe me this wasn't easy. Being a black aircraft I was very worried about the dreaded silvering. The decals are actually really good, apart from some which printed in one length. The DZ for example was printed as one piece, so I chopped this up and removed as much of the carrier film as possible. The same applied for the roundels, I cut them as close as possible from the carrier. The shark mouth was also cut into two pieces before being added, and for all decals copious amounts of Micro Set Solution were used. Only time will tell if this has worked out . Oh yes, 4 pints of nerve agent were consumed during this adventure

You did your best on the decals and it shows Paul. Not easy on a black plane.

The stickers look great fella The main build looks good too, if there's a flaw in the plastic black will show it!

Cheers Steve dude . There is in fact a flaw on the port wing, it's left of the roundel just above the aileron .
