I think Steve mentioned I should build this so I will lay the blame for this shelf-killer at his doorstep. With the FW-190 in the home-stretch, I think it's time to start a new wingie project. This is really a beautiful kit from Italeri and even comes with a photo-etch fret. I had no idea how big this plane really was, as it is quite taller and longer than the Lancaster. Stay tuned..........

Glad to see this on the bench Ian, it's one of the unsung heroes of Bomber Command.
It stood tall on its undercarriage and it was long but it had a comparatively short wingspan which limited it's ceiling to around 17,000 ft. Just the right height for flak and fighters! The wing made it handle very well but as it flew lower and slower than the Lancaster and Halifax it couldn't be used on mass raids as it not only had to watch out for the enemy but bombs from above.

Ugly plane. (Subjective view). Extremely interesting and rare subject! (Not a subjective view). Will be waiting to see that getting built. π

I'm in on this as well. It is one of the only WWII British bombers I have not yet built.

I have started the Stirling kit and we will begin with the interior, which is huge. There were several notable punch marks on the fuselage interior so due to the ribbing they would be impossible to sand. Instead, I took Frog tape (two layers) and cut squares to place over the areas where there was a mark. I then sealed that with diluted PVC glue to keep the tape from curling. Next I will start on the fuselage interior colors. I had to do a little digging on this but from I could deduce early-to-mid- Stirling marks actually had RAF Interior Green forward crew sections/cockpits and then everything aft of the radio compartment was aluminum (or silver lacquer), except for the floors, which were green. The bomb bays remained black like the Lancs. Paint to follow.

Good idea with the tape, much simpler than trying to fill.

I have started the paintwork on the Stirling. The forward section has been painted with Mission Models RAF Interior Green and the rear section painted with the Vallejo Aluminum. Next I added a heavy wash of Acryl Flat Black diluted with Pledge Floor care. I still have to apply a Flat Black Border for where the bomb bay insert goes. Next I will start on the turrets and crew stations.
