Inspired by Robbo's Spitfire in RAF colours and I don't think my friends will mind if I have two threads in the GB I thought I 'd do this one from Airfix. After a couple of hours with fast drying Citadel paints I had the cockpit looking okay. Belts from Tamiya tape. Then sealed it all away never to be seen again Some clean up to do but we're on our way

Awesome, Steve! Love the big Tempest......if a muscle car could be an aircraft, that would be the Tempest.

Thanks for the great comments fellas I wanted to go for the most colourful version so started the paint by giving the underside a coat of Medium Sea Grey slightly lightened for scale. Then realised that both the Sky ID band and the invasion stripes were decals, you also have the roundels and codes. This means that you'd have three layers of decals which would show in the scale. The wing leading edges are also decals which never work well. Here's what I have So it's back to the paint shop. I'll post pics when I have a set

I would do the same Steve, even two decals over another is noticeable.

Cheers all. So I set about painting the camo , yellow ID and invasion stripes, some of the steps below... Ended up with this.. Upon close inspection I found that my stripes were nowhere near straight, I know that they would have been hand masked but the difference is just too great in this scale. Especially o the underside. So I removed all the paint and started again.. Onwards and sideways

That is a stunning paint job, I would not have known if you hadn't of said about the stripes

The invasion stripes were often added with the use of cloth, brooms etc. in record time so starting all over wasn't necessary imo. Respect for your decision to redo the labour. It'll look awesome!

Proof of life.. Underside and upper greys back on. The Ocean grey looks a bit washed out but that's just the strong light. I've run out of syringes for mixing paint so need the posty to drop the next delivery in before the green can go on.

Second time lucky Steve . I had the same problem on 1/48 Typhon, then I masked the stripes in one go. I wrapped the tape around the wing instead of masking top and bottom. It paid paid off, I took best D.Day markings in Belgium in 2019
