Oh well..............had to strip the whole feckin` lot down again..........twice!!! Turns out another AM part came back to haunt me..........could not get the headset to sit properly no matter how hard i tried, there is a clamp type bracket which clamps to the top of the fork stem, this has a large bolt that passes throught it and a recess cut-out in the upper fork stem where the side of the bolt sits in, these two are supposed to marry up but `no way hosea`.....i ended up resorting back to the origional parts but even then it still didn`t fit , turns out the AM chrome ring which sits underneath the headset was about 1mm to wide compared to the originol one............out with the angle grinder.............bloody fits now and back on track hopefully!!

Way to stick with it, Dude. I was forced by insurance companies to use AM auto parts for 40 years. Believe me,I feel your pain. Say what they want. AM parts ain't OEM parts.

Thanks Robbo.... Thanks Jeff......yeah i hear ya bud, trouble is unless you are prepared to hunt for ages to find OEM parts you`ll never get it finished, there are OEM parts out there but few and far between.........the AM parts tend to be copies which arn`t always perfect, a company i use have managed to obtain OEM drawings and reproduce them a lot better but as a compromise you have to pay that bit extra, the prob i had was the decorative chrome ring which sits under the headset..........it was slightly deeper than the original and was causing now end of issues in trying to get everything lined up.
