Thanks for the kind words, oh-fellow-floggers-of-styrene! So I made some good progress on this beast and I applied the Flat White for the Anti-Flash undersides. Following that I proceeded to mask off the slat and flap areas to apply the Insignia Red. Needless to say that was alot of Plastic-Wrap and Washi Tape. That was probably the hardest part of the paint job because the slat and flap arrangement on the 'Vark is about as complex as the Tornado. I then masked off the fuselage and painted the radome next so it finally looks like a proper 'Vark. I did a test fit with the Squadron Canopy and it fit well on the Zhenghfu front fuselage section so the front nose and windscreen profile will be proper, unlike the abortion HobbyBoss provided in the kit. I will start work on the panel lines and the sub-assemblies next. Cheers, everybody!! Best wishes, Ian

Thank you, everyone! I added a wash to the wheel bays (HobbyBoss seemed to have at least done a decent job with those) which consisted of acrylic Model Master Black diluted with Pledge Floor Care. I also worked on the sub-assemblies. Photos of several FB-111's showed a very wavy demarcation line on the drop tanks so I went with that look and masked them off and applied the camo. Another serious downfall of the kit is that the plastic is so soft the main landing gear assembly is not strong enough to support the plane so it bends. I will be using the Scale Aircraft Conversions metal landing gear which is really quite nice. Anyway, stay tuned. Regards, Ian

Sweet stuff, Ian. Those Drop Tanks look like little submarines.

Thanks! Yeah, those tanks are pretty large but they do look cool on the airplane.
Best wishes,
Ian

I am slowly getting to the finish line on the FB-111. I did some post shading on the plane but rather than use lightened shades of all the camo colors I added lightened spots by using Dull Cote Lacquer with a few drops of enamel Sand added. This kind of simplified the post shading process rather than mixing up all those different shades of paint to post-shade with. I then lightly post-shaded the panel lines with Tamiya Smoke applied with an airbrush. Most of the sub-assemblies are done but I still have to add some washes The Scale Aircraft Conversions metal landing gear is really beautiful and incredibly strong so it should have no problem supporting this beast. Onwards and upwards. Best wishes, Ian
