Little milestone, 300th post I believe. Sorry to say that the Corsair bit the dust. Was working on it today and bit by bit everything began to fall apart. The undercoat I was using turned out to be a can of S**t which caused a cancer on the plastic and destroyed the glue holding it together. As it was a raffel prize and life is to short, I sent it to the recycling centre. So out came the large scale Tornado. However, this turned into a nightmare also. More on that at a later date. Should be valuable info for anyone else building this. One rocket seat down, one to go. More soon. Tim

That’s a bit of a bugger Tim, especially at such a late stage in the build. Hope the Tornado is better, well relatively anyway.

Bang seat construction problems SBS. These are the instructions, steps 1 to 3a. These are the main constituent parts. Top left to bottom right parts 1 to 8.
Parts 3 & 4. Note part 4 has tab on rear and part 3 has slot at bottom. This is not shown on the instructions.
If you put these parts together as tab through slot you get this. In this shot I have placed part 2 in place and compared it to the bang seat I have constructed. As can be seen, the problem is the back has no rake to it, and part 2 does not line up with the back rest of the seat. Solution is cut the tab off part 4 and build the the seat section from parts 1,3,4 and 8. Then construct the seat back from parts 3,5,6 & 7. With the tab removed the back will now slide down into position using the guide points on the inner edge rear of parts 1 & 2 and give the correct rake to the seat.
Hope this maybe of assistance to others, any problems give me a shout. If you compare the built seats side profile with that depicted in stage 3a of the instructions they now match.

Having shown how to correct the bang seats, I felt that I could not live with them... ordered some replacements. Whilst I was at it I ordered an Eduard mask set for the canopy and replacement pitot tube and angle of attack sensors. I think the seats will look so much better.
Tim
PS: Just noticed that the seats are not identical, even better.

The Revell kit seats are not the greatest and I ran into the same problem on the F-4G. The resin seats will be much easier to deal with. Nonetheless this kit does build up into a beautiful Tornado so looking forward to this.

Ian

With "Social Distancing" of course. Replacement bang seats and other goodies due to arrive tomorrow, so I got on and started the office. 4 more decals to go for the side panels then should be ready for the seats. Very pleased with the results so far and more tomorrow, start of three day week, so not in till Wednesday and loads of bench\garden time. Tim

Paul & Ian, Thanks for looking in and the comments. First up today, I got the last four dec's in place. Then, after looking at many pictures, decided the back seat IP needed some modification. Out with the black screens and in with green and the central monitor? is now a black \ blue glossy affair. Next up, the new bang seats arrived and what an improvement! Then closed up the cockpit and added the seats for a quick look at how it all looks. Onwards and sideways and tomorrow those seats need some colour. More soon. Tim
