Hi All The weekend is coming to an end and it's back to reality tomorrow. Mind you can't complain as I've had a full on weekend of modelling and my second passion, smoking of fine meats! In between smoking a rack of beef short ribs, the Tiger has been progressed. The first job, was painting the steel cables on the deck, followed by the remaining tools on the rear off the tank. The radio mast bases were painted in AK Tyre black. The body, turret and other assemblies were given a coast of Alclad satin clear coat ready for the weathering stages coming up. I also started on the figures which will be in the diorama, no pics yet, but will follow, probably in the figures section. Today was time to do the tank marking. Now I have to say at this point that I'm by no means a purist and I like to build and paint my models with artistic licence. A while back I'd purchased a whole heap of marking stencils from Ali-Express. I was tossing up between the decals and the stencils for a while, but then I thought, back yourself. If it goes wrong, then it's a costly mistake or if it goes right,it will look pretty good (I hoped). So I went for it and made sure that I made a tamiya tape jigs on the model to ensure each step was sitting in the right positon. I have to say that it was an enjoyable experience and I pretty happy with the results. Don't know why I'd been to chicken to use them. So without anymore waffling here's the results. Keep Modelling!! Cheers Mark

That looks great, your first tri tone you say? you've nailed it Mark, well done Cheers Robbo. It was a bit nerve wracking and i was all set to use camo putty but I'm not a fan of really hard line camo transition. I have done some free hand camo previously on the 1/24 Typhoon. Mind you the larger the scale the more forgiving it is. Have definetly got a bit more confidence post application. I stopped worrying about the overspray as I knew I could tighten it back up with a heavily diluted base colour. It's definitely best applied when you're relaxed.

I like the deep brown on the vivid yellow, smashing camo. I'm using the Tamiya tri tone camo colours, but felt the brown was too brown. I added in some Hull Red and it gave it a much richer depth of colour, and like you say works much better with the yellow.

Oh, yes very good. The totenkopf symbol is stands out very well. Cheers. It was the first one i did, so i thought start small and work up to the multiple masks. I was nervous during spraying and the removal of the mask, but it was worth it. Just love the look and not a decal ridge in sight.

Evening / Morning All Hope everyone has had a productive and enjoyable week of modelling and creating? It 's been a crazy week at work as we moved office location on Friday, so there's been some very long days, including getting up early to watch Euro 2020/1. So weekends are really the only time I get for modelling at then moment. This weekends activities have included finishing the touch up on some of the add-ons, such as periscopes and the towing steel ropes. Funny when you take pics of what you've done, it never seems to have the same inmpact as when viewed by eye. First key job was putting on a Tri-tone filter. Next up was the panel lines and pin washes. I used the Abteilung oil colour Engine grease and the VMS oil expert to thin it down. I've seen Nightshift use the Oil Expert and it speeds up drying time. Well I can confirm that it definitely does. It really is great stuff, highly recommend it. So in between other jobs (Non modelling related) I cracked on with the pin washes. It really changes the dynamic of the model and makes the details pop. I always like to take pics so at a later date i can see any mistakes or areas that were missed during clean up with the thinners. The following photos will show a few areas where clean up is required so definitely a work in progress. I've also been experimenting with the spare track length that sits at front of the tank. The bottom area has a little bit more rust effect, mix of mig enamel wash and AK pencils. Enough rambling, enjoy the photo fest. Keep Modelling!! Cheers Mark

After seeing beano's finished crashed bird diorama the party went on in this thread update, the magic of a simple pinwash!
