Try giving those small bits a coat of Tamiya Extra thin when still on the sprue John. Then cut them off before it completely dry, like dry to touch, only takes a few seconds. This takes the surface tension off and they won't break when cutting. It works bloody well on Miniart kits, so it should work here too. That's a helluvva top tip neighbour!

Update:: One of the rear baskets.
Only when I was cropping the photo, I've just noticed the number plate is upside down. Usually with a painted and weathered kit it would be hardly visible.

I think it is a foundry mark or something that.

I think it is a foundry mark or something that. Definately a number plate Tommy. The Israelis use heavily embossed plates on all their vehicles. The reason is simple, it's so they can get a 100% ID of which vehicle it was after being destroyed, specially after a burn-out. Just odd that it's the wrong way up. I would cut it off and turn it around

I would cut it off and turn it around It's the wrong way up because it's my mistake... when I glued it the first time, the small part flipped when I grabbed it and ended up with the embossed part facing the hull, and in a rush to correct it ended up like this. After the photos yesterday I tried to remove it but it was already too dry to remove it without damage. I'm going to leave it. With the Mine Roller device in place it's the perfect cover-up....

This is one good reason to prefer tanks than planes... Great work JP! The basket looks fantastic!

Merkava update ::
So far I only had one issue with the suspension, and now after getting the other side on, I think the issue is that the different wheels and I think there are also some different suspension arms might be that and also mistake from my part on handling those wheels and suspension at some point during the build.
but I got into another issue here, that ended up with some excess Tamyia glue (visible with the camera glare), because this big part ( 2 previous photos ) does not fit perfectly. be aware when glueing it because if the fit is good on one of the sides I bet one of the other 3 is not... I removed it again, started filing and cleaning in excess on all sides to make room to fit everthing in. It still isn't perfect but there are no gaps.

Fit problems are normal, but in Meng models they aren't. Great save JP. Looks amazing! A bit of sanding over that glue will take the build back to its normal clean way.

Nice options from Meng to let the vision ports opened or closed.
Working on the other rear basket,

Strange Meng has an issue like that, but I think you have sorted my friend Well here 0.5 mm makes all the difference, that might have been some clean up needed or one of the other moving parts that wasn't glued really tight. As you said, I have sorted it , I will sand the excess glue and keep going !!

File and fit is one part I enjoy, so long as it fits in the end as yours does.
I never worry too much about excessive TET as it vanishes after primer and a light sand. Finger prints are totally different though, they seem to etch themselves right though the plastic !

Started working on the turret.
A few parts in this turret build are very tricky and hard to find the right fit. I will post some more photos later about it.
Anyway, have to get back to the bench.

These steps were ok, no issues,

The problem was here :
As you can see, I had to accept the disaster on the top of the turret otherwise the side turret part wouldn't fit... anyway I will mask it with some more Tamyia thin glue, and if there would be paint involved, Mr.Surfacer and sanding...
Maybe some parts were warped, I didn't pay much attention to it I admit, but ..... if I wanted a quiet little build to comeback I would have picked a Tamyia kit and would be done in a weekend..
Working now on these:

As you can see, K8 fits great at the back, but the front part has a HUGE gap

Cunning Plan that envolves Super Glue and finger strengh...
